I'm getting married in about 3 weeks (my first). We're both late middle aged and are pretty easy going, so no crazy wedding arrangements, needs or drama. So far, it's been surprisingly smooth. Good planning and tracking, great (helpful) friends and simple plans.

The only thing I'm sorta hung up on is the RSVPs... We sent them out about 8 weeks ago, with a request to reply no later than 7/26. So, with a week to go, we've only received replies on about 1/2 of the invitations (80 out of 159). I know there's still a week to go before the deadline, but it seems odd so many are still pending. While it's not a big deal and it won't really impact anything (we'll have time to order the food after the 26th), I'm getting a bit anxious on getting a final number.

Just wondering if other people who are married had any similar experiences to invitations?

Just have a glass of white wine and work on your Brazilian. They shall come. You'll get around 70% yes.

A little of this and a little of that.
    Congratulations!

I never knew what true happiness was until I was married, and then it was too late… :boink:

Seriously though, I think there’s issues with the USPS that are causing the delays.

Would recommend kindly reaching out to those who have yet to RSVP and ask if invitation was received. USPS has been having issues.

Maybe "RSVP" has lost meaning or common courtesy has....

We paid for my daughter’s wedding and had the same issue.
We went with the # of people invited plus like 10% just to be sure.
Some didn’t show but some brought unexpected with them. It all worked out good.
Relax and enjoy life’s too short.
Haha long story marriage was over less than a yr cost us 25k it was a nice wedding.

Give the few you’d miss if they weren’t there a call. Assume everyone else won’t be there. Focus on your spouse and your day and always remember, if anyone is upset that your day didn’t revolve around them that’s a good catalyst to never have to worry about them again haha. Congrats! Have fun!

No Brazilian, I go full naked kitty. I'm drinking scotch, so no worries. My other half said to expect 30% "No" and I said it will be about 20%. From the replies we've gotten so far, she is right. We're around 28% as of today. Speaking of drinking, the total number will dictate how much alcohol we buy. I modified a drink calculator and put it in excel. I think the original range for rating if the guests are light or heavy drinkers was crazy low, so I added a few more numbers to the range. Still seems a bit low... or maybe I have a problem.

It's crazy how expensive it is, and we have some really good deals. The church and reception hall are free. The church's flower guild is donating most of the flowers. We will buy corsages and boutonnieres and some misc other flowers, which will be about $1700. A good friend is hosting the rehearsal dinner so that removed about $3000 from the bill. The big costs are food - wedding party dinner (27 people) and reception, hotel rooms for parents and siblings, and "Other", which is invitations, reception supplies and other materials.

I was thinking red wine and liquor, but it's going to be a light reception (appetizers) that will end around 4:30. No dinner, so trying to keep it simple. The wedding party will regroup for dinner later, and we'll have plenty of red. We are members of a great winery up in Plymouth (Cooper) that has fantastic reds.

dood. We discovered Cooper in like 2007. Been members ever since. We bought all our wedding wine there in 2011. We still have a partial case of Primitivo from that. Jeri, Dick's daughter, crapped her pants when we bought the wine. Half Primitivo, half Viogner. Pretty much loaded my 1st gen bed 1 case high from front to back that day.

Dang. It was so much cheaper to use the courthouse, both for the wedding and divorce 10 years later.

Total Chaos mid-travel front. JD Fab SUA rear.
Between my wife and I, we sent courtesy text messages to those who we would expect to make it but had not RSVP (not out-of-towners, out-of state). What did kind of help is that we used a website to easily RSVP instead of having to send a card/letter in the mail. We ended up with around 85% attendance that way from around 60% response.

After all was said and done, I realized that all the stresses and anxieties of planning the wedding ARE the wedding.
Enjoy every aspect of because the actual day goes by so fast, a lot of your memories will be your worries and you'll look back and laugh.

The sisters are fun to talk to. Are you going to the members picnic next month? We're out of town, plus it'll be too damn hot. We keep a few representative bottles in our liquor cabinet, with the bulk of the bottles in a closet. The Primitivo and Voigner are damn good.

You'll never hear from the ones not attending. It feels rude to say "I'm happy for you, but not happy enough to show up." A 50% response rate sounds pretty solid.
