6 years and some change later and I’m finally practicing BJJ, I attended my first class 13 days ago but due to work/family schedule I’ve only been able to make it to 2 classes, tomorrow night should be my third unless I have to work late.

I did Muay Thai for 10 years. Fought once at a smoker event, dropped from 215 to 185 in a month and made weight.

I tried joining a Muay Thai gym again but the fire to compete just isn’t there. I’ll always love the sport and the confidence / humbleness it gave me simultaneously.. but I can’t bring myself to be in there 5 days a week or train for a fight. It was so much damn work.

I trained diligently for around 10 years and was able to achieve my 1st degree in kenpo karate, but have not maintained the practice.
I found my hands/fingers were becoming arthiritic from all the flexing in and out of the various hand forms.
And life moved in a different direction.
I do miss that clarity and the elevated sense of body-spatial-awareness that practicing brought.

I can see a soft form martial art in my future, but for now my spare time is largely spoken for.
