    ORIGINAL:

Been lurking for almost a year, guess I could throw a build thread together.

Came from the Jeep world, had a nice build going but when it came to anything over 60 mph it was to tiresome on road trips. On the way back from Tahoe with the wife and pups, told the wife I was getting a Taco for the road trip back east to visit family.

Did my research and decided on not going with a new generation first year (again...) and got lucky finding a 2023 TRD Off Road with pretty much all the trimmings despite a MT being the only mandatory feature I wanted. Took delivery beginning of 10/2023 after waiting a little over a month.

    Enter Mary Jane:

    PXL_20231011_233401992.jpg

Didn't have much choice in color, would have had to travel 300 miles for something else that had a MT, and well, it is definitely green. but the drive home in the rain was absolutely fantastic!

Already had a few mods in the garage after waiting, now it is time to get her ready for a 5k mile road trip in under a month...

First couple easy things to knock out:

S&B CAI, because all the power gains
J&L Catch Can, because why not slice into a PCV system hose on a brand new truck...

Next up, since I shift by engine tone, time to make this thing louder (but not too loud, it is a V6...)

    Magnaflow Overland exhaust

    PXL_20231013_064452696.jpg

This one worked out really nice, gave the engine a nice tone without being too obnoxious

One last thing before spending 5k miles in it, took out half the rear seats and made a quick plywood bench for some dog beds and some door covers to stop those nails from destroying everything. I'm thinking a Goose Gear seat delete may be in the future...

After road tripping across most of the country, I'm in love with this truck. At 6'2" I see why a lot of people complain about the seating position after long periods but the pups helped get us out a little more often.

They seem to have had a good time as well

Now it's time for a few cosmetic things to try and tone down this green

Never had a bug deflector before and have always been skeptical on their effectiveness but it does look good IMO

    AVS Bug deflector

    PXL_20231120_233455452.jpg

And some matte black bumper shells to help on the back end

After spending a couple weeks with the Peragon cover, I decided to take advantage of their return policy. While the cover itself was great overall and I would recommend it if it fits your needs, there were a couple things that I decided I didn't want to live with. The biggest one was losing access to the bed rails even when the cover section was removed to access the whole bed.

Working with Peragon on the return was straight forward and they ending up giving me a full refund (minus the shipping costs). Overall a great company and great product that just didn't fully fit my needs.

Now for the replacement, a Diamondback SE

And time to start adding some better underside protection.

Went with a TRD skid plate cause I am going to try and keep this thing light.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
For shits and giggles, I’d switch out the rear diff fluid.

Did do all the gear fluids not too long ago, still playing catch up on this thread to get were the truck is currently at.

Good job. Any squeeking at all from the belt area, change out the tensioner and idler pulleys. Having that shit the bed really blows when you’re 300 miles from home. Good luck and have a great time!

Debated for quite awhile on going with the TRD lift kit to get a modest lift, TRD branded Bilstein 5100's, and the pro style grill but something about the spacer lift in the back just didn't sit right with me.

So a knock off pro grill from Taco Vinyl for now while debating on the exact lift

This one annoyed me early on when I noticed that the exhaust was one of the lowest points on the truck

    Time to correct this travesty

    IMG_0037.jpg

Didn't really want to slice up the exhaust but I guess there is no going back now. Threw in a Borla Y-pipe relocation

@EvlFlash how do you like the Borla Y pipe? Obviously ground clearance is improved. Any noticeable gains from behind the wheel? I’m close to pulling the trigger but it’s not a cheap piece. I’m

I have no complaints on it. I didn't really notice any difference performance wise or any tone difference with the Magnaflow but didn't really expect it (I also drive it like a truck and not a sport car). I just wanted a bolt on option to get rid of the low hanging exhaust and really the only options are the Borla and the URD. You will probably get more performance with the URD because it deletes the rear cat's. Emissions is something that I didn't want to mess with even though I could have probably gotten away with it where I currently live.

If you haven't come across it already, some more info here on the y-pipe from someone else who has it installed.

Finished off the drive train armor with some RCI aluminum skids with the added cat guards.

After some extensive research on lifting these trucks (first IFS lift for me) a whole host of goodies to install...

Decided on going with a Bilstein 6112/5160, 2" up front with a 1.5" Icon AAL in the rear (for now, OME Dakars and shackle hangers are on the future list).
