I think as long as you have regular tags you will have to go to emmisions. My 1993 camry has regular tags and i have to take it every 2 years. If the vehicle is 20 years or older it's eligible for historic tags then no inspection or emissions testing is required.

So I was thinking........... instead of buying a 3rd Gen Tacoma within the next year, I have been looking at some 6.7 Ford Diesels. Since I have been in school and got my ASE Certs I have been enjoying working on them. Also would be nice to have a full size that could tow my boat. At 5600lbs that may push the Taco a bit. Also I was looking at 4door 3rd gens, ( Thinking Kids down the road ) but I have such a hard time making myself like the 4door look. If I got a full size extended cab Ford, the back seats would be usable, at least more usable then my Taco now. Maybe set it up with ARBs full size bumper, they also make a Safari Snorkel for those bad boys. ARBs flagship red Ford is a beast. Thoughts?

6.7 is an excellent engine..................IF it has been maintained properly,(like most everything else) a HUGE bitch to work on, due to extremely tight quarters, cab gets lifted if it's a major repair.

My cousin has a low mile 2011 F-250 King Ranch 6.4L diesel. Rides like a caddy & LOTS of torque for towing, nice truck. But it had a issue last year with a tube that goes from the turbo to the exhaust and it was a "cab off" repair. More than half the motor is under the dash/cab which requires the cab to be lifted off of the frame for certain repairs. He didn't like that repair bill! Not sure if the 6.7's are designed like that.

If you have a lift, go for it, if not, id go for another engine option, also keep in mind that Turbo=Expensive to maintain, repair, and replace when you blow it up

Nope, went with the 302 V8. Tried and true! I was nervous trying the new turbos, expensive repairs. Plus there is no replacement for displacement.

6.7 ftw. 6.4 wasnt a very impressive motor. If youre okay with older, get a 7.3 but prepared to pay for higher mileage. Not a big deal because you can't kill them. Avoid the 6.0 unless the head work was done. A $3500 repair, and thats before the heads go.

Thanks for the replies guys, I will be buying a house within the next 2 years and it will most certainly have a garage with a lift in it. Maintaining it would be must for me as a Mechanic so no worries there. I really really like the look of the extended cab 8 foot beds. With some mods of course :)
