got lucky with some timing this morning. I noticed over the weekend that I had blown out one of my rear icons. they are the old style 2.0s, so they are not rebuildable. stumbled upon a thread this morning for some piggyback resi Foxs with the adjuster. brand new, never installed, for half of retail +shipping.

Score! just be sure to have them clearcoated once you get them in, MD salt will utterly destroy them if you dont.

my biggest complaint about anything fox is their crap coatings. living by the beach in florida with the year round salt spray from the ocean tore vehicles up worse than any northern winter I've been through. my icons held up great down there, but my buddies with Fox were having to pull their suspension out after less than a year to wire wheel and re-coat. so yes, needless to say, these things are getting a shot of clear as soon as they come out of the box.

I wonder if some sort of black oxide like coating would do well on coilovers?

I'm a fan of galvanized. the land rover community galvanizes everything, down to their entire frame if they're doing a full restoration.

we use a lot of black oxide hardware out here, holds up great. I'm just curious how it would hold up over time on a truck where you are getting constant abrasion from dirt, and spray from pressure washers.

Hmm. i wonder if that would mess up the threads since it sits on top of the base metal. or if it would get worn off with adjustment?

most of the galvanized material we work with, we run a tap/die back over/through, before installing. it cleans it up to where everything works well, but there is still enough galvanization left to do the job. granted, I've never done it to a shock body, which has a very high thread count for its diameter, but I don't think it would do too poorly. the problem area will be the inside of the shock body. if you're hot dipping it vs cold spraying, you'd have to hone the inside back out to the proper diameter/finish for the piston to travel through.

what the hell does weldable mean lol? is that more of a paint that will dry/cure, or a coating like fluid film?

It's more like fluid film. Says it should last about 6 months so every few months have to spray it

Im assuming they mean it wont turn into something that will kill you/permanently disable you under a welding arc.

Eh, i never understood the whole "winter wheels" thing in MD, we get snowed on maybe once or twice. yall mountain folks almost need a set with dedicated snow tires though.

On a side note, any of you guys run these in the winter?

Need something that will still get me to work and back in deep snow.... as the airport dont give a shit about the fact that theres 2' of snow on the ground, they still want you to come into work... and i found out my Dynapro AT's blow balls in deep stuff

We had a 28" snow fall last year.

Snow is no joke in the real part of the state.

    Have you had this experience?

i have ATMs and i've been in over two feet of snow with only half tred... Its all in knowing how to deal with it. They worked no better and no worse than the Firestone ATs. Worse in sticky mud.
