Had this waiting for me when I got home from my thanksgiving vacation. I was averaging about 16.7 MPG with the stock intake and stock filter. I pulled the carbon filter before putting almost 2 tanks of gas through it but I haven't done the math yet to see if it made any difference. I will do the same once I install the intake and see if anything improves in real world driving. I don't expect much, I'm realistic, if I pick up even a slight bit of fuel economy and better of the line power which seems to be commonly reported, I'll be a happy camper. I certainly don't expect gains as advertised on the box even though that would be nice!

    Same as everybody else...
I hear about all kinds of problems with the fuel door being weak. What do you guys use to lubricate the hinge? I'm thinking Fluid Film? Any suggestions appreciated.

No. All we did was assemble some struts on the wall mounted spring compressor.

If you don't have a good spring compressor and need a hand let me know.

I think I want to make one of my winter projects opening up my fender flares, but I'm not sure what method is best. Craig's (Homertaco) method looks awesome and provides more fender coverage, but I don't know anything about plastic weld or filler. MrGrimm's method looks much easier, but somewhat unfinished.

@colinb17 how has your trim / no flare setup been working for you?

really depends on how far out your tires stick. I spray the side of the truck pretty good when its wet out. you also have to keep it in the back of your head if you rest your arm on the open window when you wheel. it's a good way to coat your arm with mud really quick.

really, legality is the biggest factor. Craig will have a much better chance of passing a state inspection that has tire coverage requirements than I will. I passed Virginia inspection no problem when I have 285s and no flares. 315s and no flares, I imagine would give me trouble.

I'm overall happy with the setup though. I personally have smacked my fender areas into so many trees and rocks, that if I have put any effort into modifying flares, they'd be destroyed already.

Craig actually ran into that problem with the first set of bushwackers he did. he tapped a tree while we were at rausch, and it split the flare along the plastic weld he had made. easy fix for someone like him, but something to consider if you go that route.

Yeah, this is all in preparation for future 35s, so it all comes down to providing clearance for them. Legality is a big one for me since MD has the quarter drop rule, but it would suck to do a bunch of work on the bushwackers just to bust them on a trail. That's why I kind of like your method, because I imagine I could just bolt the original flares back on before a inspection... or I just find a shady shop that does state inspections.

I thought you only had to do an inspection in MD when you first register the vehicle, and that it was emissions only after that?

So they don't took for things like tire clearance during emissions? I haven't been back in MD long enough to do an emissions test yet.

This is true. You could still get ticketed for tires sticking out past you fenders if you get pulled over tho. when I put on my 35s im just going to risk it.
