Never tried the oem synthetic. Pricepoint on it? Where do you get it? Stealer or better deal elsewhere? I've always used Mobil 1 with oem filter. I can get a 10pack of filters and crush washers for $50 from Amazon.

I always have a laugh at people who claim to religiously change their oil every 3k miles but changing that crush washer.... not necessary. Waste of $1.

OEM oil is 6.95 a qt from the dealer so about the same as Mobil 1 oil. I'll likely switch to the TRD filter come the 5000 mile oil change.

Oh that's not bad. Doesn't beat m1 on sale or rebate. But I'm a vehement believer of oem is better. Still use the oem wipers and replace the inserts yearly. $40 for 10 pack of inserts and I got the same length wipers for each side.

I used the trd filter a few times on my t4r but I didn't notice any difference on the oil change. Granted I wasn't wheeling hard or dirty at that point so reason dictates the filters weren't used for their purpose.

Might have to try the oem synthetic on the next change.

I don't drive my truck much, probably put 5000 miles on it in a year. For me, the $60 a year on OEM oil and the better TRD filter is worth it even if I don't use the filter the way it was designed to be used. You really can't go wrong with Mobil 1 oil though, it would be my second choice if I was to not run the OEM oil.

Well I figure the oem fluids are rebranded as Toyota anyway. Just that the components have been engineered to work with said fluids. Other than washer fluid. Whatever you use for that is arbitrary. My parents used water with a few drops of dishwashing soap on our 87 hilux surf when we were kids.

Does anyone have a ecgs bearing removal tool? Might order the bushing soon and I'll get the tool if we don't have one and try to keep it local. Maybe do a deposit type loaner like autozone does. Also I already have a bearing driver kit

The way I see it is, there are quite a few Toyota vehicles out there with very high mileage. A lot of those vehicles are owned by people that have them dealer serviced which means OEM oil That says something IMO. With that said, I would not trust any dealer to ever touch my truck, I won't even use Toyota Care. I'll use Toyota oil but i'll perform the service myself.

Hahaha I agree with you! The only time I let Toyota service my vehicle was on a road trip with the t4r. We pushed past 15k on the oil change and we're in Sarasota,FL for another week so we decided to take her to the dealer for a refresh. I did the TSB at the dealer because I didn't want to pay for it. The invoice for all the work done was almost 4K. Which I would never come out of pocket to fix their mistake. They did a multipoint inspection as well and found that my water pump was leaking. When I checked it was from the weep hole and reservoir level had consistently remained the same. Also that my driver side front diff bearing was worn but I'm planning on ecgs'ing it.

Because I bought a 2007 that the warranty ended on 9 years ago, and from a non Toyota dealer so the best I got was a 6 month warranty from them that has long since expired.

Costco has dirt cheap oil that goes on sale from time to time. $26 for 6 quarts of synthetic mobile 1.

Yeah but that shouldn't matter for a TSB? It's like a recall, no? If there's an update, that should be a lifetime thing.

On TSB sheets it says it's covered under the 3 year/36,000 mile warranty. At least on ones I've looked at. Now whether or not dealers stick to that is a different story.

This^ if your still under a factory warranty, they will do the TSB's free of charge. if your out of it, then your paying for it if you want it done.

Mine is not under warranty. I called them primarily about the leaf springs which is a safety recall and covers every Tacoma in a certain window regardless of warranty status.

I only use oem Toyota oil filters and synthetic blend 5w30 in my Tacoma's & t4r's. I change mine every 3k miles. I get the oil for $1 a quart from my work and I get a case of the oil filters from my cousin at his cost that works in the parts dept at a Toyota dealer.

Warranty work and tsbs are two totally different things. AFAIK tsb you have to be under warranty and recall you dont.
