Call AFI Powdercoating. I think theyre address is Jessup? We use to use them. Cheap price, quality was meh so we stopped. We wanted quality.

 

So what should a quality costing job cost on a set of fresh control arms completely disassembled and raw steel?

 

I work in a body shop. A quality rattle can paint will last as long. Probably longer. A painter will just spray base coat then 2 or 3 coats of clear. It will look better at first, but 2 rattle cans of enamel will be thicker and harder to chip off as long as they are sanded properly. Just do light coats at first and let the previous coats "tack up" before recoating. Then run a hair dryer or heat gun on them to "bake" them dry. Let them sit overnight after that and you'll be golden.

A proper coating should be sand blasted, primered and then coated.

 

I didn’t like mine at first, but after a time I think they dont look that bad. They only look very red, nice and shiny when new

 

I just hate color under the truck. Couldn't stand the red toytec coils and those are hardly seen lol. Control arms are much more exposed, just can't do it.

 

I didnt like the red color either but, the coating is good. After I sprayed liquid film on all suspension parts, it looks better, kind of dark red

Bah. It appears that when the dealership swapped my frame, they rounded off the fill plug on my transfer case. Suggestions on removing the plug ? I'm not taking it back to them, not worth the fight over a drain plug.

 

I've heard hammering in a large torx bit works, or a chisel and a hammer to get it to turn

 

Yeah, this is the shallow 24mm plug, so I can't pound a socket into it, I tried to pound one on but it want having any of that because of the steel washer poking out of one side. I'm wondering if I can weld a nut on it to get it off, but I'm not sure if the plug is steel or aluminum

 

I'm not familiar with the size of the plug, but maybe you can try grinding a groove across it and using a large flat head screwdriver.

 

Ahhh, I was thinking the 10mm hex fill plug. Forgot they were different. Could try hammering a 23mm 12 point socket on it.
