I mean you don't HAVE to regear ever. BUT its going to put a lot of stress on a lot of parts. The biggest one being the transmission. AT will wear out quicker and run hotter under more stress. MT will fair better than AT, but its still not good for it. On top of that, the lack of power and MPG, which you've already stated you don't care about. If you live in a flat area, then sure, you could get away with it. If you drive over hills and mountains fairly often, your trans is going to hate you, and going uphill is gonna be full on turtle speed.

35s are just a bad decision in general. Those "cheap" 35s are going to cost you immensely more than 285s or literally any other tire size

I don't think he meant just the tires. moving to 35's tends to get expensive because of regear, cutting, getting your alignment perfect, and possibly in the long run wearing parts out faster, plus anything else involved in making the jump.

If you want to go to 35's, then go to 35's. I just wanted to make sure you understand mechanically why a regear is necessary.

Haha I fully understand. I personally wouldn't recommend 35's without regearing first, or shortly after. But I am sure you wouldn't be the first person to have done it. I say do what you are comfortable doing.
Its almost like I've heard all of that from somebody before when I asked a similar question a long time ago. I wonder who that could be. :cookiemonster:

I had 35s for about a year with no issues before regearing.

thats the shit i wanna hear! lol no but in all seriousness as most of you know i live in SC now and am looking to go 35s. shortly after lift and tires ill have to make the drive to ECGS for the regear. i was honestly curious if i would make that drive without a regear (4hrs). but im probably over reacting

My truck is auto so I noticed with highway driving there was a "sweet spot" in 5th gear around 60 or 65 (speedo was never corrected so it may have been closer to 70). You may have to feather the pedal a few times to get it to shift into 5th.

Nothing more exciting than having to evac your job due to a gas leak, but all good now.
