Isn't that receiver considered old school now? See tons of them on CL now, I guess because HDMI is the preferred protocol for AV switching.

Technically this was old school before that term was invented LOL. In 2 years it will be 20 years old (it was introduced in 1991). It the very first Elite receiver version Pioneer made.

    Buuuut.....
If you don't need those modern conveniences it's impossible to get this type of quality at a decent price. This receiver was over $1500 new, and real audiophiles paid that for them. Of course they paired them with reel to reel tape machines or super high end phonographs. This model was considered a "reference" receiver. Basically all other units were judged by this one. The THD on this is .005%. That's virtually unheard of today. If you can find something with that spec be prepared to pay for it.

For example, a modern Denon 9.1 with every conceivable video feature will run you $1500 today, and it is only .05% THD.

I have a Marantz that's .07% THD. It was very expensive but the sound is incredible.

THD ot Total Harmonic Distortion is essentially how clean the audio sounds. The lower the number the better.

A lot of people don't need serious audio or video equipment. They're happy with whatever gets them by. You certainly don't need anything this high end in a garage or a art studio but connected to 4 decent speakers the sound would simply be amazing.

So I just thought that trading what was once a $1500 receiver for a $120 CB might be a pretty desirable deal. It obviously isn't if the other party doesn't share the same interest in it. That's how the cookie crumbles.

Speaking of cookies....you should meet up Saturday with us at the Starbucks over in Catonsville. Seems like forever since we met

Romex is the brand of wire. It's pretty much the standard in construction these days. Direct bury wire is what you want though. Don't fool with conduit just for running some power to a shed. If you're gonna dig and hit it, chances are you'll break the conduit anyway. Might as well just use direct bury rated stuff.

Yea I know, just messin' with ya! :fistbump:

Romex is just the common name. A lot of people make it. I used this to run an outlet out to a flag pole garden.
    https://www.homedepot.com/p/Southwire-100-ft-12-2-Gray-Solid-CU-UF-B-W-G-Wire-13055926/202316447

I just used a heavy duty ice scraper, similar to this:
    https://www.homedepot.com/p/Emsco-B...d-Scraper-w-Cushioned-D-Grip-1689-1/206616660

And I just kept punching it into the ground, then would wiggle it back and forth to make a grove about 8" deep. Then move on. It definitely is not easy and took a while and I recommend doing this after a good rain, but it was a lot cheaper than renting a ditch witch and was way less mess. Plus now I have a heavy duty ice scraper for my driveway or walk.

Aww, well, being a artist is tough. Especially starting out. Otherwise the term "starving artist" wouldn't exist. I am sure she will make it and things will get better. I'd say tell her to put a resume in here but that would be a hell of a drive. We have a graphics department and some architects. A good artistic eye is always needed in those departments. She could also see what the Maryland film commission has going on. They use artists to paint sets etc. My brother in law did that. But I hope things turn around for her and she is happy soon. Again, if you guys weren't so far, I might be able to hook her up with a waitress job. My nephew is opening a new place in Jarrettsville. That would be a long haul late at night though.

Dude, if you can sell those and make a dime then more power to you! Get millions though and I may have to ask for a little mod money. :D

This old yota is sitting in a driveway of a empty house thats for sale near me. Unfortunately it's not a solid axle truck but it does have the bulletproof 22re and the odometer reads 110k. Not sure what I would do with it but I left a note in the mailbox with my number.

Romex is to wire as Kleenex is to tissues or Q tip is to cotton swab.

A pick axe might have been easier than that ice scraper. :gossip:

All true! Great analogies. I was going to use the hot tub version but thought it would be weird. Plexiglass is another good one.

Yea, I have a pick ax, but the ice scrapper and my wet clay was fine. I also have one of those 40 lb breaker bar things you see road crews using. Between that (that mofo will wear you out) and the ice scrapper I ran a 8" deep 30' groove in a couple of hours. The best part was, there was no evidence I even did it because I just walked along both sides until it pushed back. The grass didn't even die.

Of course I was much younger then. But I am getting ready to move that flag pole garden so I will be running the wire from the existing spot 12' away. I'm going to try to just wire nut and tape the connection and hope for the best.
