Our TV went out. I went out and brushed off the dish. It came back on.

    A thing or two...
I'm not sure about the bolts. The clamps are a non-magnetic grade of stainless. The bolts are magnetic, so they're either a different grade stainless or regular steel.

A fucking drain on my bank account! I'm willing to bet you can or do have a legitimate IP there. Our options are lame ass 4G cellular or even lamer satellite.

I've never tried an antenna to see if that would work. Just too many trees here. Even sat is sketchy depending on the weather.

    I hate it!

And even though it's not snowing anymore, the sat is out again. That means the snow has saturated the trees blocking the signal.

    :frusty:

Luckily we keep the DVR full of movies.

All services requiring an adequate IP or unobstructed view for a HD antenna. See how lucky you are in Cumberland!

Satellite IP is $100 a month. The reception is generally ok, unless there's any type of precipitation then it's hit or miss. Even our phone line, land line, when we had it was sketchy depending on the weather. That's why we dropped ADT and went with Frontpoint Cellular security. It's more reliable than anything we've ever had. Now, I do have a PS3 and it's connected (wireless) to a MiFi device (3rd line/service on our Verizon) so technically I could stream and record those but the MiFi throttles back after 20gb. Our Verizon is unlimited data but is any unlimited package truly unlimited?

I've researched everything and our best bet is to move closer to town.

You must live out there. I thought I lived out in the sticks, but we do get Comcast. There are a handful of places in my county that their only option are satellite tv or internet. We didn't have cell service at my house until about 3 years ago.

Does your county have some type of service agreement with an ISP?

have you looked into either mounting the dish on a tower, or possibly a microwave internet solution?

It would have to be a pretty freaking tall tower. I just need to cut down some trees. I have a microwave. Never thought of running it to see if it helps. :D

Looked up Microwave Internet and it appears the same things plaguing my SAT dish would affect those as well. Hills, valleys, trees, weather are what kills those too. We are actually near a Verizon dead zone. 1/4 mile to the west and we would be screwed completely.

Here's the real suck ass part. We are approximately 1500 feet off the main road. My closest neighbor, that we can see from our front window, is about 500 feet off the main road. They have cable. I begged the cable company to do whatever it took. My other neighbor has a trencher, or ditch witch, and we offered to trench, lay the conduit and install pull boxes and junction boxes, the whole nine, and the company said no. I asked if they would run it overhead using the existing poles to my secondary service and they said they couldn't because the cable needs to be 13' away from the power lines and they couldn't go above and below would be too low. Now, they did offer to install the line to my house underground theirselves. It would have cost me $3500. And that is just for Clearview Cable. So not even a big name like Comcast or Verizon. To make matter worse, there is an existing underground Verizon telecom line running underground to the house. So the cable company could use that to pull the cable.

I'm just screwed. I won't have adequate service unless we move or they upgrade to 5G near us. Which won't ever freaking happen untill everyone and their mother has it first.

There are benefits of living out in the country, and there are disadvantages. Being such a techie it hurts.

You could get a VCR :bananadead:

But seriously, don't those devices allow you to just play what you want when you want? As long as it is available of course.
