    Kayak time!

I was driving on I-70 East bound at Hagerstown when that mess hit. All the way down the hill into Frederick, 5' visibility at best. Pretty heavy rain storm. I hope that no one got a flooded basement.

Also, anyone here know how to install a antenna (CB) end? I cut my GMRS midland radio cable shorter than the 397383 feet they send you and need an end put on it to screw into the radio.

You should not cut the CB cable. Leave it stock. It has to do with way antennas work. There is a ratio between the length of the effective antenna and the length of the wavelength.

I heard the opposite, I heard it’s terrible to leave the cable super long and coiled up and interferes with signal strength?

I know for sure that any time you coil wire that has any sort of power running through it, you generate electromagnetism which may interfere with the communication.

I agree with the do not “coil” the excess cable. Randomize the storage of the extra length.

    FYI

Select the correct coax length. Many antenna manufacturers somewhat pre-tune the antennas utilizing 18 feet of coax which is why we generally recommend 18 feet of coax even if you don't think that you need that much. Just be sure to porperly store any excess coax in a figure 8, about one foot in length, and bound in the middle- it should look like a long, skinny 8. If you do select a coax length different than the 18 feet, there may be additional antenna adjustments that you will need to make in order to achieve good SWR reeadings. Want to know more? Check out what Firestik has to say about it.

Also, if you extend your coax, there is some signal loss that occurs. Usually, this is not noticeable, however, it is important for you to know.

Q Is the length of the coax cable important?
A We find that it is very important ... especially with high performance top-loaded antennas. Your safest bet is to use 18 feet (5.5 meters) coaxial leads on all of your CB installations.

Q I only needed 9 feet of coax to go from my radio to my antenna. How should I handle the excess?
A What ever you do, do not roll it into a small convenient coil. It will become an RF choke. If you cannot let it lie loose under a seat or in a headliner, wrap it into a yarn-like skein of about 12 to 16 inches, put a wire tie in the center and tuck it under your dash, seat, etc.

I'm in the process of downsizing in preparation for the move. I'm gonna take a pay cut when I make the move. Sold my 68 chevelle and paid off $3k that I owed on my SxS and the $7k balance I owed on that property I bought this past November. The remaining $11k is gonna go towards my pole barn that I want to have built up there, I can't be without a garage. Once I make the move the sale of my Baltimore house will leave me with enough to pay off the cabin. Living up there in the beautiful mountains of WV with no mortgage is my dream. The simple life.

Was checking out my suspension and tq stripes today and noticed what looks like the leaf bolt rubbed the fuel tank. Not sure if that could happen from driving or when I was at the beach or when the fuel pump was replaced. I’ll either cut threads or see if I can easily get the bolt turned around…
