Mike, I've determined that if and when the day comes that I decide to own a Tacoma, I want exactly what you've got. Double cab, long bed, and maybe the same color, not entirely sure on color yet though. Thing is looking good my man. And don't get me started on the St Maxx's.

Thanks Joe. Im looking for a set of matte grey TRD rims and I will probably finish debadging the Tacoma and SR5 emblems on the side and I just ordered the black bumper corners. Probably going to just drive it after that.

Luck with finding the TRD wheels. I debadged the 4Runner about 8 years ago and got rid of the emblems. Last year I decided I wanted them back, so I was fortunate enough to come across some for sale from a guy on T4R. Paid like $20 or $25 for all four? I think? But I wish I had never taken the originals off. Too much damage from using a knife (I was a kid and didn't know better) and didn't use fishing line or anything non-abrasive.

But I feel you on just wanting to drive it afterwards. Part of me wants a brand new truck/4Runner, like a clean slate and to just leave it be... but I know I can't help myself, lol. At most, I would just want to do really nice, dark tint, maybe a body lift and 33's, but that's it. Nothing more. Until the bug starts up again...

I started with "Im just tinting the front windows" and then I went out in my driveway and took the air dam off. And then the mudflaps. And then it needed tires. Then it needed a skid plate. Then it needed a recovery point. Then it needed an Eaton Detroit True-Trac locker. Then it need to be level. Hopefully new to me rims will end my obsession.

Hahahahaha sounds about right. But don't hold your breath because I'm sure there will be a lot more along the way. Do you have a build thread for that thing?

I agree with @JoeT4R , your truck looks amazing. It’ll look even better with the stuff you have planned! I’m in the “just drive it phase” for a while with my truck right now too. Gonna pay off some house stuff and then get back to truck mods probably in the spring.

This is my truck’s “just drive it” form for now…

Tony… forgive my ignorance, as I’m not very well knowledged in the world of frame rot/rust. But I always hear of how Toyota basically has an abundance of frames lying around for warranty replacements or even that someone can just buy for a ridiculously low price. I know my local shop had a pile of fresh frames piled up out back forever. Why not just replace it? Isn’t this like just masking a bigger problem, a false sense of reality??

That being said, I know it’s no easy task to disassemble and rebuild an entire truck to a new frame. I know from doing a 3/4 frame-off resto on my old ‘75 K5 Blazer. And that was a pain, no doubt about it… But, wouldn’t that frame be all but “toast” at this point. Like not even safe to be on the road? Not just for your friend, but other drivers? I had a friend up the road with a T4R who’s frame looked like this and it actually broke completely through, thankfully at a very low speed and he didn’t wreck.

Again, I’m not very well versed on this subject brother… so lay some knowledge upon me. Lol!

The K5 when it was started and how it ended…

Man it took me 9 years of ownership before I decided it was a good idea to have an online record of everything I've done to my truck. It took me a few hours to type everything out but I've been diligent about keeping it up to date. When it's all said and done it looks pretty cool, in my opinion. And it's never a bad idea to have multiple records in case your physical copies get lost/destroyed. Then again, I'm very particular about that kind of thing, lol.

Very true, I’ve gone back to my own posts in my build thread a bunch of times to figure out when I did certain mods when I needed the info. It’s been very helpful.

Hey I've worked on the truck before too! :anonymous:

Hopefully it'll be good to go for a while. Just gotta keep the underside washed in the winter.

Not to overstep Tony on this one, but I know this truck. The frame is not that bad, just had those couple spots. Now what will the future hold, not sure, but between other members and I, we'll do out best. I can do the metal work on the body if need to be. They still make patch panels for these trucks and one other part is just flat where I can use sheet metal.

    Solid ass resto!
ditto on this one. Very easy to patch as is vs a whole frame swap. Plus that looked like a 2004 or older frame, which they have not remanufactured in many years now.

@Tonymontana and several others talked me into patching my 4runner and she turned out great. Passed MD inspection with flying colors twice and the new owner seems to love the truck.

Now that I did it the hard way, i found a company called autorust.com that makes full fledged patch and plate kits that you can do a really nice job with. I definitely did not enjoy welding upside down over my head, that part absolutely sucks. But some of these rigs are worth saving for sure. Too many people just walk away
