I was going to *sarcastically* suggest that you could fill them with dry hydraulic cement so that when they get wet, they will turn into waterproof stones.

I'm curious if you could tell me a ball park $$ for those new fuel lines that you just your mechanic replace? I didn't think ( but never checked) that they would still be available through Toyota. I need to tackle that job on my 4runner, it looks like an original filter on there.

I've replaced plenty of those undercarriage mounted Toyota fuel filters and never a issue. Days before soak both ends with PB Blaster and use a good quality line wrench.

I don’t know what it’s normally like this time of year but there’s a good number of people at the bars. I waited an hour to get breakfast this morning at Bad Monkey.

Unfortunately, I did try that. When it looked like one line might start to unthread, then I heard the crunchy rusty metal sounds coming from up around the gas tank, I just stopped. Different battle for a different day.

Soak and very carefully work it back and forth just a bit. Then resoak, gently tap the flare nut and carefully attempt to work it back and forth then repeat. I've done the same with rusty ps lines when replacing rack & pinions and wheel cylinders. In my 25 years as a auto tech I've never twisted or damaged a metal line. Takes patience and good quality line wrenches & crows foot sockets. I would lend you the tools if you need'em but unfortunately all my Snap-On boxes are locked in my brother's mother-in-laws garage in Chase and the keys are here with me in WV. No garage here at the cabin yet.

I have all Snap-On and Matco. This is just one of my wrench drawers. Cheaper brand line wrenches tend to flex around the flare nut resulting in possibly stripping the nut.

I appreciate the offer for using a brand name flare wrench. My set is Proto, so it's better quality then horrible freight stuff. I've always had success with mixing acetone and ATF into a squirt bottle and dousing a crusty fitting. I've gotten caliper bleeders open that I never thought would ever open again. I'm always open to listen and try new ways of doing things from people that have fought the same battles. There's been a few times in the past where a wheel cylinder line fitting was so fused to the line, it simply wasn't coming apart so I would unthread the wheel cylinder from the line... let the next chump fight that losing battle! That's what happened to the fuel filter on my 'runner. I got one side to crack loose ( engine side ) but the pump side was so crusted together, when I tried to unthread the filter from the line, the line twisted a bit and some orange dust fell down on the ground. This was 2 days before I was leaving for CO in August 2020. I said 'screw it' and put it back together and drove it on the 4500 mile road trip.

I was hoping to drive out your way tomorrow and go by that property near Pawpaw, the forecast has changed those plans.

So a new Sheetz opened near me today. Went by to find out what all the hype was about. They have your regular 87, 89 and 93 octane fuels, plus diesel, as well as E15 and E85.

The E15 was significantly cheaper than regular 87. And it's 88 octane apparently. Figured I'd try it since it was much more affordable.

I definitely expect to see a decrease in fuel economy and possibly performance. My plan is to run it consistently for a few tanks and then see if it's really affecting my mileage. Also to see if my engine throws any codes. Will advise in a few weeks on my findings.

Don’t waste that corn in your gas tank. Better use is for drinking. Let us know what your MPG is?

For sure. On average right now with regular 87 octane I'm getting between 13-14 miles per gallon. I use a ScanGauge tool full-time so I can closely monitor mileage too. Once I filled up with it my butt monitor didn't notice any immediate changes in performance but I only put in half a tank. Definitely interested in seeing the long term results of this experiment.
