That's sweet dude. So you don't pay for a single thing when you go in? And how long will that last for?

I do buy a set of wiper inserts from the parts department and occasionally let them rotate my tires if my back is hurting

it’s supposed to be for the life of the truck. They lived up to it on everything I’ve bought through them so far.

I wish I had gone to your dealership. I made it to the second free oil change at my dealership and I caught them lying about multiple things so I already switched to my local shop because I know they are trustworthy.

I really wanted that flawless service record of work done all at a Toyota dealership but I just couldn’t trust that they were actually doing what they said.

That’s terrible about the dealer. Some are just shady af.
But having a trusted local shop that you know and can support is good. As long as everything is documented you should be ok. I think you could add in to the Toyota app about the things done.

That's insane. I can't imagine not having to do my maintenance for the life of the truck. But I imagine you do still pay for it by how much you're paying for the truck itself. That's wild.
I would be the same way, wanting to have everything done by Toyota and Toyota alone. That's really disheartening to hear that happened to you though. Was it a Toyota dealer in Maryland? Or somewhere else?

It’s only the oil changes. I do think they’ll try to do all the 36 month things when I go… maybe they can check the AT fluid and that’s it.

That's still pretty sweet. One less thing that you have to be worried about. Do they require it every "X" amount of miles or is it whenever you want?

Yea my thoughts exactly, I keep a folder with every single service record in it. Hopefully that’s enough! Although I never plan on selling the truck haha

Yeah it was in Maryland, the 355 Darcars Toyota…I think that’s what it’s called.

Yea, it is. They won’t do the oil unless it meets the 10k miles or 1 year. But yeah, it’s pretty nice to not have to deal with the oil.

The only downside, maybe, is they always say that if I do some of the maintenance myself they might not keep the engine guarantee. But I’m going to keep records of things I do, when I do them and receipts.

I'll be sure to stay away from there, then. I've never bought a vehicle from a dealer before and it seems a bit scary. Like how they probably all try to get over on you with pricing and stuff. Makes me not want to buy something new, ever. But on the other hand I would like to own something new someday.
I gotcha. 10K for oil changes though? Sheesh. That seems a bit long between changes. Do you drive more than 10K a year?

yea but with synthetic it’s supposed to be fine… for the past few years no, I think I’ve averaged about 6K a year. I’ll be going into the office and more events this year again, so I’ll probably get to the 10-12k a year range. Office is in Philly and events can be mid to southern NJ, SE PA and anywhere in DE.

That makes me nervous! Lol. But hey if that's what the engineers at Toyota say then okay, so be it. 6K a year isn't bad at all though. If you keep that thing for 20+ years, you're gonna have one low mileage rig, which is sweet. My Dad has an 03 Taco he bought new, and it has less than or around 130-140K miles on it. All original everything, completely stock, 5-sp manual, factory e-locker, 5VZ, 4WD. Thing is mint.

I bought my truck new from the Toyota dealership that is right off 270, in Frederick. It was actually an extremely easy experience and I negotiated them down to like $6K under MSRP. This was before the prices skyrocketed but it was a really good deal. $32K out the door for a brand new 4x4 SR5.

I can confirm that the salesmen knew absolutely nothing about Tacomas, which actually made it easier to swindle them lol

How many miles you got on that bad boy now? You must drive it as much as I do!

Your dad has a nice truck, I have the same but 2004. I bought mine with 147k miles but the 5vz was seized due to the po neglecting a loose & leaking oil filter.

that’s awesome! I hope to keep it till I screw up the electronics or something lol. Hopefully it’ll last 20+ years.
Yeah, i agree. Only sometimes they know what they are doing though. If I was really concerned I could send out oil samples for analysis and see how it goes.

I find it pretty hilarious when they don’t know everything about the vehicles they sell. I’d get it if it was a brand new year model or something, but they should know what they are talking about.

I have just over 20k now.
Before the Tacoma I had a Prius and put about 100k miles on it about 3-4 years. It had close to 150 or 160k when I traded it in.

Yeah I agree, it was a good thing I had done my research because it really paid dividends.

And nice! That’s a ton of mileage. I always like seeing people who actually use their trucks and don’t just build them up to let them sit in the driveway. Although I respect that as well, if it’s your hobby I get that too.

When I was looking at the Tacos, a sales buffoon at a Toyota stealership in Annapolis was trying to tell me that the bed had a "nice factory bed liner" in it. I explained to him that it was a composite bed, not a cover. He insisted that I didn't know what I was talking about. When I asked him to show me how it comes off, he couldn't find an edge and told me that it must have been glued in from the factory.
