I haven’t done one in a few years, I’m pretty sure I do the bolt through the wheel well with a standard ratchet short extension.

If it’s seized then I would try putting loosen pressure on the bolt then have someone attack the starter with a pry bar to get vibrations on your side. (Unless this is a contract rebuild not a starter replacement)

Get some heat on her! Maybe a benzo torch with a low flame to control the heat placement to the head of bolt only… then hit her with a 1/2” breaker bar. She’ll pop loose.

 

Thats what did the brake lines for me, heat, lube, heat, lube, wait all night, heat again, and she popped right loose.

 

I had to drive about 20-30 miles today in the truck, went through a chick fila drive thru, truck was making odd squeaking/squealing noises. I parked in the lot and saw that both front sides were riding mostly on the bump stops. Luckily I have upgraded bump stops but I guess the 650 springs will not cut it with the foam cells or there is something else I missed. I didn’t think about checking the strut to see if it was hot. Going to put the other springs back on tomorrow if I don’t see any other reason the truck was like that. It was dark and I couldn’t see anything else.

After my experiment I guess I know why IM does not offer lower than 720# springs for the Tacoma. I guess the spring rely on some of the nitrogen pressure to hold the truck up. Though I’m not sure if the 150-200psi would be enough. Unless I didn’t have the springs set high enough but they were 1.5” over stock height and last night when I looked the bump stops were sitting on the lca.

I was going to make the same offer, mainly because it matches my Taco!

My Taco had a Leer cap on it when I purchased it. It was ok for a while but it also became a massive PIA when I tried to remove it, as I didn't have any help. It also made it impossible for me to fit a queen sized boxspring inside of it, no matter what way I tried to angle it into the bed.

Those caps definately have their benefits.

 

I have been torn with the cap. I commute with the tacoma, and love the added security. I also like to camp with the truck and would love to roll out a foam pad to sleep in it, but I live on a farm and use the truck bed like crazy (hint the 6' bed) so I have been apprehensive on dropping 5k on a cap. For the right price, I think I could make it work.

 

I spent an hour or so cleaning it up and I got all of the stickers off of the windows, checked everything over and washed it. It looks better cleaned up. I replaced some self tapping screws along the bottom of the swing up hatch due to some minor corrosion but mostly because I was bored and had them already. I dont think I am going to use it. The guy that owns the little restaurant by my neighborhood has a long bed MGM Tacoma and he said he would give me $650 for it. I know some people are interested here but I dont want to gouge anyone on the thread considering I got such a deal but these kind of deals usually dont come my way. Trying to make a few bucks to add to my wheel/tire money.

 

Flip that bad boy! Let the bidding war am start at $650…

 

Consider it sweat equity. Plus the time you invested in finding it and taking it in and off your truck. Time is money as they say. I would flip it for at least a grand.

 

I got the springs swapped with only a little trouble…

so….

One of the cam bolts seems seized. I was able to fight it loose a bit without messing up the tabs but the the nut side is seized to the cam. I just soaked it with pb blaster and will let it sit for a while then see if I can break it loose.

Im guessing I need to replace the bolt and cams on that one. Any other advice?

 

Also, I now have a set of king 14” 3.0 ID 650# springs for $150 if anyone is interested. Only put about 200 miles on them before I had to swap back.
