Thanks for the info. The body shop told me this was common practice for insurance companies to use aftermarket parts. They haven't started repairs yet, as they are still waiting on parts.

Sadly, yes… it’s standard practice for them to cut corners. It’s an insurance company, they never want to pay out, much less pay close to 3x the money for OEM. I’m f I were you I’d call and cancel it all and have it done correctly, not what the insurance company tells you is just as good.

 

Took the words right out my mouth!! You should demand OEM parts, ... it may take a while, but you'll be better off!

Made a few calls about this, and yes they are trying to cut corners at my expense. Jones Junction has 200-300 vehicles currently waiting at the body shop to be worked on. How do I demand OEM without having to pay the difference? I hate insurance companies. They are only concerned with their profits, not doing the RIGHT thing! Why should the value of my vehicle be diminished because of their cheap repairs? Just saying

 

Call your insurance and the body shop and demand it. They have to do it. And get the parts list from the body shop and make sure they use OEM, and not just tell you they did. The person that hit you, their insurance is liable, so don’t give in to any of their BS!

 

Yes, WHAT he said!! You know, ... you have to an a$$hole sometimes and THIS is the time to be one, ... demand OEM parts. It came with OEM parts and I WANT OEM PARTS back on my truck! You DO NOT have to settle with aftermarket parts. DO NOT let the insurance company win!!

 

That’s a lot of cars in the back log. From what I’ve heard you can just tell the you want OEM parts and they should do that.

Don’t forget to ask for depreciative value (or something like that) there was a recent thread here talking about it.

Good morning everyone. I'm back at the '88 K2500 this morning. The rear brakes were non-existent as well as the e-brake system. This old turd should stop pretty well after all of this work.

 

Oh, YES ... I forgot to mention that!! I believe in Maryland, it's diminished value - Diminished value is calculated by determining a vehicle’s value before a collision and subtracting the vehicle’s value after the accident and repairs. The difference equals the vehicle’s diminished value. Insurance companies rarely pay this value in property damage claims. So, ask about it and stick by your guns!

Good catch @hyrule_trd. Someone hit a friend of mine's Ford F-150 and he did pretty well in terms of diminished value, even for a Ford!

I hit a deer with my Tacoma a few months after I bought it. The body shop said that the insurance company wasnt paying for OEM parts. I explained that my truck was months old and I wanted OEM parts. A few calls and some respectful conversation with the adjuster and I got OEM parts. All I needed was a bumper cover and a fog light.
