To me it sounds like it’s a personal preference thing; maybe a necessity for those who tow and also have larger tires.

When I had 33” mud terrains on my Tacoma, it was an absolute slug. Acceleration and braking were horrible and I have a tune. I didn’t need gears but it wasn’t fun to drive it any more. Then I went back down to 265/75/16’s and everything is fine again lol

I have never regeared a vehicle either.

I work at a private country club. Just finished school and looking for another job hopefully in the Rockies somewhere. Wait until the spring time and go to a few clubs as the hire seasonal work just to get your feet wet. Where are you located maybe I can point you in the right direction.

 

I have yet to check it out in person but I know that road, not a bad deal. And it's not too far from the blacktop road Detour rd. I'm a little over 4miles from the blacktop road. And a 4mile drive on these switchback roads is 15-20 minutes lol.

 

My regret isn’t about regearing, just about tire sizes. But, without doing my own research, I can’t be sure that there are more options in 17” around the 33” tire and possibly in non E ratings.

Could try aviation but that has a somewhat high bar to entry as well, either as a pilot or mechanic. And they cost time and money. You could possibly find a local mechanic at an airport that will help train you but you’d still need the equivalent of 30 months practical experience.

There are airframe and power plant A&P schools as well. One in lower DE (part of a College), Northeast Philly and Frederick, MD or out that way somewhere.

Right down the road from Frederick. But I feel you? I’m trying to move west, whether that’s Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, those kinds states!

 

Aviation can be pretty rewarding. I starting in the Army, working on Apaches, then a small general aviation shop, then on the Maryland State Police medivacs. I’ve moved on since then but the aviation world is hurting for mechanics and pilots. Most airports have small flight schools that will give you a free or “cheap” introductory flight and talk to you about how to get your pilots certificate.

Airline pilots and mechanics can make a lot but hours might suck.

 

I had the opportunity to regear when ECGS installed my E locker. I chose not to. Then again, I won't be putting that big of wheels on. I've always seen people go up to 17s fine, but when they put larger tires on they do.

 

If you're tuned I wouldn't worry about it, chat with your tuner about a tweak for the 33s. If you're not, do it, you won't be disappointed. I ran 275/70-17s C rated (basically 32.5) on my 2019 sport with KDMax 6 and had no problems whatsoever, even when fully loaded (with the extra spring fully loaded was about 1600 lbs). If you're going to tow the boat long distance regularly you might think about a re-gear. I'm running OTT 9 on the 2023 and won't think twice about stepping up the tire size to 33s when I've got the $$ for the lift, tires/wheels. At some point I may re-gear to 4.88s and drop in a Maggie but that's a ways off.

 

My thoughts exactly… all the money for the re-gear (parts and labor), mind as well just slap the blower on her!

Did you ever mount that AES manifold spacer?

 

I did, jury is still out. Seems to have enhanced torque in the lower RPMs beyond what the tune did, but the ACIS change around 3200 RPM is more noticeable (more like it was before the tune), the tune had smoothed that out. I really want to remove it now that I've had it installed for a few months to revisit the tune alone. If I do, I'd like to do some logging of performance with OBD Fusion with and without the spacer just to have something to go on other than the butt dyno. OTT could probably do a custom to adjust for the spacer but not sure I want to go there at the moment. All that aside at the moment it runs .

That’s what everyone online seems to say as well. Back when you first mentioned it, I became very interested… always looking for that next mod to play with! Especially the ones that make the butt dyno feel more power!! Well, keep me posted on what all you do with it, love to hear real numbers. That seems to be the one thing that is missing all over the internet… minus the manufactures site. But sadly, you can’t always trust the people that are also looking to profit from the info they give. I like real knowledge from 3rd party testing.
