Well, looks like the forecasters were wrong once again… don’t get me wrong, it’s wet out here in Carroll. Been a steady mist all day, but no rain yet!! WTF?? I welcome the rain at this point… 55 degrees out and we need the rain!

 

It’s been raining here most the day and a lot of mist/fog.

I’ve noticed that too. I watch some Facebook forecaters too. They always say the bay and mountains is tricky for them to take into consideration with these forecasts.

 

55 Degrees and we NEED 25 degrees and snow! It's winter, for pete's sake

 

Peraonally, I’ve lived in MD all my life… from the Eastern Shore, to Baltimore County and now Carroll County. I’ve seen it all… I’ve played in the snow, I’ve shoveled the snow, I used to work at Ski Liberty as an instructor in the snow, I’ve plowed snow for work, I’ve even wrecked cars in the snow… I’m done with the snow! As an adult, snow just means no work and having to clear the property these days.

I’m out of here as soon as the kids both have diplomas in their hands. House should be about 75% paid off by then, and we’ve already made about 60% of what we paid for it back. Off to either a lake or tributary in South Carolina. Going to start looking at land lots down there as soon as the interest rates settle down. Then it adios MD and winters!!

 

I wonder if I'll get to that point - the point where I'm okay with weather being fairly consistent. I like the drama of it changing, I suppose. Living in LA (Lower Alabama) was odd because it was 85% hot/humid/sunny, and occasional t-storms to make it interesting. If I had all the money, I'd winter in Alaska or Michigan's UP, and summer in/around Charleston or even out into the Keys.

I heard that term "LA=Lower Alabama" as an Airman at my first duty assignment in Phoenix AZ...in 1986!

Maybe it was because I told him I was from Cali...and he then asked, "where in Cali?"

We were both in the same squadron and lived in the same dorm...I still keep in touch with him via FB! lol

 

Funnier that you heard it in AZ. I at least heard it in Alabama lol

I was looking to buy sometime next year (I'd also likely use the VA or a company like Veteran's United), but it's crazy seeing I a brand new 3 bed/2.5 bath in VA for 100-150K less than similar older homes near me. Unfortunately, I'd also have about a 1.5-2hr commute to work if I did do that lol. A couple of my coworkers make commutes like that, because it's just so overprice here (south of DC). I honestly may just buy an RV and live in that once my lease is up and just keep an eye out for the right house. I hate pissing away so much just to rent an apartment right now.

 

For awhile - had I picked up a remote job - we thought we'd move to Martinsburg WV for about-an-hour commute to DC. Other than that, i'm priced out of that area. I could afford something, but it breaks my heart to pay 30%-100% more than I think a house is worth, just to have a house down there. Good luck

 

Thanks man. If I could do remote work, I would but I'm an AC Mechanic so it'd be kinda hard Right? I plan to be here at least 5 years or so, so I'd rather buy a home and keep it as a rental property when I eventually move.

We had a couple dustings of snow earlier this month but nothing but rain lately.

When we looked in PA the property tax was a little cheaper, but the school tax was several times what the property taxes were. Add on the bill for private trash collection and it didn't make sense to move. School taxes were up to 12k depending on district. My baltimore County tax was 2k all in.
