AAL kits are nice, but a good bit of work… but are a “true suspension lifts.” Same with full leaf pack replacements. But get salty in price quick.

Blocks and u-bolts are less than $100 and retain the stock suspension, just lift it slightly off of the rear differential to achieve the desired height.

Both work extremely well, but comes down to weight of your load and how big your wallet is.

Sorry you had such a nightmare with all of it… keep us posted! And don’t wait too long on alignment, you’d be shocked how quickly you can trash a set of tires!

I used an Icon AAL to lift the rear of my truck, if that helps point you in the right direction. I also have a 1/2” shim from headstrong offroad but I think I have more constant weight on the rear than you do because of my ARE shell.

 

Whats your opinion on sumo springs?

I looked at icons, then I looked at the price haha. With how little I want it lifted and quickly resolved, I'm leaning towards just a block for now

 

No true opinion on Sumo springs… honestly, they never were on my radar. I was looking at Icon and EMU leaf packs but substituted them for Camburg USC’s and settled for a 1.5” billet aluminum blocks for now. It does everything I need it to currently. AAL’s will be in the future though… when the time (money) is right.

I know! And it has the 6 cylinder twin turbo. Some even have massaging seats! Needing premium gas kinda sucks though

 

People that buy $70k vehicles don’t concern themselves with the price difference between regular and premium fuel… unless they are like me “ballin’ on a budget!”



…on a side note, my Taco has never seen regular fuel since I drove her home new off the lot. I’ve always used mid grade fuel. But not just in the truck, but yard equipment and all. Higher octane fuels burn faster hotter and cleaner. So when you demand more from an engine than the “average Joe” it just makes sense to me.

 

I’d definitely be ballin on a budget and watching the gas prices lol… I do now too when I fill my tank then put then drive like a race car so, it’s a me problem. On that, I’m thinking of pulling the rear roof rack cross beam, since it’s vertical, maybe that’s increasing wind resistance more than it needs to be.

 

Kinda a late thought… before the roof rack was installed, do you know what your MPG’s were? How about after the installed?

If I were a betting man, which I’m not, I’d guess to say it hasn’t been effected in any way… other than wind noise. Air flows through and around those things so well, I can’t see much resistance. But the wind noise alone can make a false impression of resistance. But still would like to see actual numbers on someone’s before and after…

 

I would have guessed the same. While I didn’t write down the numbers before, I think I was closer to 280-290 miles per tank with the Baja Boss tires. Maybe everything then the winter gas has me sitting at 250 miles per tank. I’ll scroll through my photos and see if I have any pics. Pretty sure I dropped from 15s to 13mpg after the roof rack. Maybe I just payed more attention. Though it does really seem like I’m going through more gas going to/from work when I gotta commute.

Could be I’m doing more shorter drives too.

I will add, just in case, yep, I know it’s a truck and I did several things that reduced mpg knowing it would be reduced. I’m still happy with her even if I’ve got to fill her up after one back and forth to work

 

Taking her to a weekend mechanic so they can figure out the double rubber situation and align, I guess the bro lean isn't too noticeable?

 

I think she’s looking great! Shouldn’t “settle down” at all beings you’re using the OEM springs. So I’d think this is where she’ll stay… unless you mover the spring perches up/down. Did you happen to measure the ground to the bottom of the fenders… see how much lift you truly gained??

 

Yeah I'll keep her like that until the blocks come in, 9 in from top of wheel to fender for the front, 7 in for rear. The mechanic said theres a metal washer missing for both front shocks... Currently trying to have the dumb ass mechanic shop buy the hardware and stat!
