Bolded part. Interesting. Admittedly I haven’t done much research, but my sister has a Corolla of the same gen and it burns oil… 10k mile intervals for years. We knew 10k was too good to be true…

That is the only car we have ever done 10k with. My truck has been 5k since new.

Joined Camry groups… Pssh, nerd

 

As those 2AR's are aging it's definitely popping up. Our '23 recommends the same 10k, but there's no way. It might see 5-6K miles a year so I just change it every 6 months. Seems like a waste of oil, but I'm not chancing it.

I also change the oil in the Tacoma every 6 months. Miles average around 4K per oil change.

 

Yeah. I do 5k ish miles in my vehicles. Oil is still cheap enough that it is worth the peace of mind.

But I will say, looking at the 5k mile oil, every time I’m kinda like “how is it advisable to go 10k?” It’s always dark.

 

Color isn't exactly a determining factor for the most part. If anything it means the oil is doing its job holding the soot/contaminates in suspension. Doesn't harm anything. Now if it's like the Exxon Valdez, then yea. Direct injection engines are hard on oil as it causes more fuel dilution so the oil will smell a little more gassy.

I must be doing something wrong, my '15 with the 2.7/auto and stock sized tires struggles to get to 19 with constant driving, Stop and go will drop it a bit more. My old crusty T4R pulls a constant 20 MPG on the highway, 16-17 in mixed driving.

Hahah stop it you’re making me blush! I didn’t notice a diving board, but I was going East and you or your twin was going west. Kind of close to Frederick I think, if I remember correctly lol

 

Diving board referring to the oversize tent on the back lol. But damn I didn't notice, next time I'll flash the ditch lights!
