Yes on tails. Also yes on turtle dinosaurs! Technically, turtles were around so they can be dinosaurs in my book. And snappers really do look like dinosaurs. But that is a hefty looking snapper from what we can see.

 

Yeah. Those guys can take off appendages easy.

Good job sir... you had the pleasure, and the turtle as well, to have been in a brief encounter with a common snapping turtle...the one on the left. And on the right, is his pleasant and friendly sibling the alligator snapper
