First of all, thank you for wanting to no longer blind people :D

Second, why not get retrofits now? Just don't want to put that kind of cash into the taco while working on the Vdub?

Third, led headlights are probably your best bet but i know nothing about them. My only worry is that they won't heat up enough to melt snow/ice/water from the outside of the housing

Pardon the ignorance but retrofits are a complete assembly right? You aren't changing the bulb but rather the entire housing?

While we are on the subject, does anyone else think the stock foglights are weak? Is there a good drop in replacement for them?

Most people that do retrofits either buy new housings to start with or they bake their oem apart, paint them and add in the projectors or what ever else they are running.

If i were to get retrofits, i would have someone build me a set with black housings, 5k projectors, and white halos

I do not remember the bulb size on the OEM. On my ARB lights, I dropped 100w bulbs in there. H1 maybe?

You really have to be careful not to melt everything.

When someone is blinding me with their high beams or HID's , my 'high' beam has been known to let them know my distaste for the excessive light.

Id have someone build mine again if had the money but i am happy with how they turned out either way for my first retro. Id rethink halos though, i put them in mine and ones almost all the way out not even a year later

I just want something different than everybody else. Retrofits are near the bottom of my list as long as i can keep buffing the haze off of my stock lenses

Would the halos be the low beams and the 5K be the high beams then? Sorry to keep bothering with questions, but I know very little about lighting and I haven't seen any Lighting 101 stickies on the forums.

Are HID's generally considered the "blinding" lights or is that the LEDs? I want the lights to be functional, but not the be a d-bag driver.

No. The projectors have high and low.

The halos can be used as parking lights, day time running lights, or just for show :)

HIDs in stock housings without the proper reflectors and material around them are what people complain about. I myself am plagued by seeing these vehicles with these lights and it really does bother MY eyes.

LED conversions seem to be safe so far but its a good bit of work to get them fitted, hooked in, and aimed. You might as well just get a retrofit IMHO.

TRS also makes a drop in projector but you do still need to take the housing apart. Not a bad compromise.
