We are still on for Saturday

    August 8th Meet 11:00-?

    Subway
    2148 Palomino RD
    Dover PA 17315

The reason I picked this location is Dave Is camping at Pinchot state park with his family this weekend and Chip and I and some others are going camping on Sept 5 and I thought it would be a great place to check out after we all meet to see if it would be a good place to camp for us that weekend . I have stumbled across the place b4 and the place is amazing and the prices are reasonable . So come have some lunch with us and lets hang and see if others want to join us by checking out Pinchot camping grounds .

If you all haven't seen this yet take a look:

Looks like we might be getting a real off road park... not Rausch Creek, but better than nothing.

haven't checked the ratings recently, but Rausch was rated the 3rd best off road area/park in the country a couple years ago, only being beaten by Moab and Rubicon Trail.

Well I dont think this Md.venture is meant to be a ORV park just some useable trails and small rock crawling area..It appears to be led by a couple of 4wd clubs so it probably will useable for jeeps and small trucks

Isn't that what Tacoma and 4runners are considered? Small trucks?

Have any fellow MD'ers ventured into the world of roof top tents?

In your opinion... think they are worth it, considering 1,000+ price tag?

Yes,but others said it sounds small and atv/dirtbikes..if I was cutting in new trails I'd make them small or narrow too. cheaper and less time consuming they will naturally be made bigger/wider by use .jmo.

depends on what you will use it for. I really want one, but when i get one, it will go on my off road trailer, not my truck. reason being, i camp primarily when i am wheeling. if i mounted it on the truck, not only will it raise my vehicles center of gravity while wheeling, but then i have to pack it up every morning before leaving camp. one of the points to a RTT is that it is quick and easy to set up. that's great, but if you have to break it down and set it back up every day, why not just use a really nice ground tent if you are staying put. hence the trailer. i can unhitch the trailer and leave the tent set up for a week or weekend. if you are moving from location to location every day, it's great because of it's speed.

so while i really like them, and think they are well worth the money, my opinion is that if you are going to be staying put at your campsite for days at a time, but need to move the truck during the day, $500-$1000 gets you one hell of a nice ground tent. for example, i spent $400 on my current ground tent. it has a 6 foot celing height, making it easy to change and walk in. it has an 80 square foot screened in front porch area, and a canopy off the back without a screen.

what I'm getting at, is that if you buy a RTT, get it because it makes your life easier. even if you have to break it down every day, a RTT will blow a $100 walmart tent out of the water, so instead, compare it to spending the same money on a ground tent and see which one makes your outdoor experience better. i highly recommend looking into Oztent for that comparison http://www.oztent.com/oztent

here is the $400 tent for reference
