You'll be fine with the VA DMV 3day temp.

From the MVA website ..... "Maryland residents who purchase a vehicle out of state may have questions on how to get the vehicle to Maryland. Some states offer a transport tag that, when purchased, allows you to drive the vehicle to your home state."

yeah, it looks like you need to have purchased the car already for the MD 30 day. furthermore, you have to get the 30 day temp registration in person at the MVA, or via mail. I'm trying to snag this car up within a week of finding it, so there is zero time for either. I talked to the seller on the phone last night, and it seems like he's not familiar with the car buying/selling process, so I'm hoping he just doesn't think about it and leaves them on. if he has other plans, i'll ask If I can mail them back to him. if that fails, it looks like a 3 day "drive home" registration for VA, is all I can do. and then toss the texas tags from my truck on it to get me through MD.......

I'm so close to being able to take the cap off of my off road trailer (turn it into a flat bed), and using that, but it's about a foot too short.

other option is to just drive it to my parents place in Vienna/Tysons, and leave it there. then before I go back to their place next, get the 30 day MD.

only issue I see, is that when you fill out the VA 3 day pass online, it asks you where you are taking the vehicle to and from in VA. does not give an outside of VA option. guess I can just type in "lusby, MD" into the "town" box and explain to the officer, should I get pulled over.

If you had that filled out and some kind of Bill of sale so it would show good intent if you so happened to be questioned about it by an officer. Just my 2 cents

I'm with you. I would like to think that it's enough to not catch too much crap, and likely the way i'll go. just spoke with my insurance, and they said I have 30 days to get coverage for the vehicle. they said I should carry the insurance card for the Tacoma with me to show that I am a policy holder of some sort. however, with everything electronic now, I can just call up my insurance after signing the title and have them immediately activate it and email me the insurance card.

so I guess i'll be ok without having to rent a trailer. 3 day registration and active insurance is as good as it'll get. any potential ticket probably isn't as much as renting a trailer anyway.

side note, never realized how cheap it is to add a second car. $640 every 6 months for both vehicles. i could be wrong, but $1280 a year to insure two vehicles doesn't seem bad at all.

No Brian had his wife with him who thought those roads were the blues and black trails at Rausch and kept telling me to slow down.
Which why she will NEVER go with me to wheel when ever I get this thing trail ready

I just don't like car dollys in general. and I would need it for 2 full days. at $50 a day, that's $200, the same as a flatbed car hauler trailer from U-Haul.

haha, it's all good. I'm doing a loop to look at and potentially buy this car. starting in southern MD, heading west to Fredericksburg, then headed north to Vienna, then headed back down to southern md. so if I were to borrow a trailer, I'd either go way out of the way to pick it up, or way out of the way to drop it off, unless it was already in southern MD

Crazy questions, but does anyone know if its possible to use an automatic dash in a manual? And instead of hooking up the P D N R to a shifter instead hooking it up to a remote display for a radar detector? That way it's stealth when driving through states like VA.....

sounds like a lot of work when you could just put a little red LED somewhere on the dash.

    Welcome,

    There's a meet in a couple weeks.

We are having a meet at Sonic in Red lion November 15th at noon . Come on out and meet the guys and brag about your trucks https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/york-county-pa-meet-events.358781/page-34

Unfortunately the PA guys are more active with meets. There's not really any good LEGAL places to wheel here in MD. If you enjoy camping me and mud (he's in PA) ran a camping meet with some dirt road exploring in Western MD. Keep your eyes out for a Rouche Creek meet up, its an off-road park in PA but worth the drive and you can camp the night before or there's a hotel not far from it. Also might want to check with the NJ guys they use to practically live out in Wharton State Forest on the weekends but haven't heard much from them lately. I most likely won't be doing any more camping meets til spring and most people don't wheel in the winter. One major reason is the risk of ice chunks going through the radiators from what I've heard someone will correct me on it I'm sure lol. We should take a day trip up the Centrailia PA sometime soon guys with it getting cold again the smoke coming from the ground should be visible again.
