3/4". I use to use the mechanical press brake at work with a flat top and bottom die and just set the downstop, it is so fast. But I'm trying to do less at my job and more and the home so I'm going to build a hydraulic pneumatic h frame press.

I'm shopping around for a die set now. i'll be cutting by hand with the plasma and a guide, and then pressing the dies with my 12T press. won't be doing it too frequently at least to start, but if I get lazy or want more speed, I may swap out the jack for an air over hydro.

in other news, WTF mother nature. I stood on the deck at watched the dogs play on Saturday in shorts, shorts sleeves, and bare footed with a cold cocktail. just sped the last two hours outside, and can't feel my face. wind is really whippin' down on the bay.

Nice. So what I am going to do today is pick up one of those jacks from HF. We use this one: to bend our tubing with a wiper/die set with great results. So I am going to pick up this one: today and build a H frame press to dimple the holes. We use to do them with a standard H frame press that was a manual bottle jack. After one set of sliders we had to get our shoulder replaced...

And yeah.... This morning is brutal.

Eventually I want to get a few more diameters of dies but for now, the 3/4" one works fine. One thing I learned with it is make sure you either burn a clean hole, or undersize the hole and open with the correct size drill bit. The die binds up on the smallest imperfection in the steel.

thanks for the heads up. my plasma gets pretty clean holes in 1/4'' plate, which I'm pretty sure my press would blow up trying to dimple. so 1/8'' with the plasma should be as clean as a drill bit. just have to get my circle guide built. looks like you can get a full set of dies from 1/4'' to 1-3/4'' for about $350 may just go with that.

Our's are oversized by 3/32". Seems to work out well. The specs on the die say you can make the hole exactly 3/4", but that didn't seem to work out too well. It kept binding up.

Damn right. Ours cuta super clean too. The die we bought is max thick of 14 GA and we use a 20 ton press with ease.

hmm, so I need to look for dies rated for 11ga/.125''

I imagine the difference in thickness ratings on dies just has to do with the delta of in the inner and outer die diameters?

I would believe so, maybe the size of the die as well?
