My only advice is if the door seals starting making their buzzing/kazoo sounds during the lovely crosswinds across Nebraska a rolled up candy wrapper or a straw shoved under the door seal works wonders in a pinch :) I need to get around to properly fixing mine soon!

oh I see you are already driving from Des Moines to Colorado today -I hope it's not windy for you!

Today wasn't so bad with the winds. Yesterday wa the worst with the head wind thru Indiana and Illinois. Today I actually ended up with a tail wind and averaged 13 mpg for the day, which made my day. We spent 99% of the time in Nebraska, boring a little but beautiful land. Then looped up into Wyoming for a second, then came down 25 to Ft Collins. We went to Odell brewery and had some great beer. The other one we were going to was closed :/ end of the 3rd day and we are over half way across the country. We had a change of plans, added a day and are looping down through LA. My wife wants to see it, and we have a friend there. I was looking forward to SLC but I think I'll visit in the winter for some snowboarding instead. Total travel time today was 13 hours including stops and going 55-65 mph.

I drove my 3rd gen TRDOR from Santa Cruz (30 miles SW of San Jose) to Connecticut (via Baltimore) and back to a Santa Cruz last summer. No trailer, but shell + rooftop tent, and averaged 20.5 mpg. No breakdowns, no diff howl but lots of crosswind kazoo, lots of downshifts and early up shifts, one flat tire. Sounds like you're almost in California now. Welcome from a native! Good beer here too!

You don't want come to LA, the traffic. Is horrible and the gas prices are 3.00 to 4.50 a gallon. Lol. Your more than welcome come if you like but you have been warned. Lol. Have a safe trip. Go see Yosemite or the red woods instead.

I drove CT to Seattle in 2005 - then Seattle to NH in 2007 both in a Civic on the way back my then girlfriend in her little Hyundai with all of my worldly possessions. AWESOME drive, saw some incredible things, and met some kick-ass folks in the local bars etc... My wife & I would love to this in the Taco and may be in the future if we have the time.

Thanks Everyone! The last 2 days have been awesome. As expected Colorado was great, Utah scenic, Almost ran out of gas near Area 51 haha. Visited Estes park CO, and grand junction. Had a slight change of plans we ended up going to mammoth lakes CA instead of LA. I have a friend moving to LA soon, and we are going to go down there in a few weeks and stay for free. Anyways, the drives out here are great. Only thing was I had to use my aux gas tank I brought, otherwise would've been stranded in the middle of the Nevada desert.

You are in an area with world class views. Yosemite is a short drive away. Convict Lake is close to you and has a nice campground. I'm jealous.

It's a beautiful country, don't sweat the small stuff. You'll have a great time. If something breaks (VERY unlikely),remember ,it's mechanical and some parts will/could fail.Biggest thing people forget when towing is use your head and INCREASE your following distance.Read my post in the 1600 mile tow.Enjoy and stop and see the sights!

Day 6 is done we are in our apartment in San Jose and exhausted haha. Couldn't be happier with the taco all in all. 3110 miles towing 2200-2500 trailer plus full bed, my wife and I and 2 pups. Total travel time was 59 hours which included our numerous stops for gas and dogs. Thank you everyone for the info. I am going to make a big post on the towing forum outlining what I did, and what I would do better or different. Then post a like here. The video will take some time to edit given I don't know what I'm doing. I'll post some pics here in a bit and the video when it's done. MPG stuck between 11-13 the entire way, drafting semis and breweries helped a bunch .

    Same as everybody else...
He's from Maryland so he's very familiar with being taxed into the dirt. Until recently we were even had a rain tax.
