yes, i understand... i was just pointing out that the "firing into a crowd" probably wouldn't have been a guteral reaction taken by an armed citizen (as some had inferred), but that in a large, dimly lit, enclosed (and chaotic) space like that, escape would've likely been a smart approach...

...don't know, ..but i would suspect that the media-hype generated about the movie probably led people to get into the rush to be the first to see it...

I agree. CCW course is very basic and can't in NO WAY prepare anyone for such situation. The best way even if you have your CCW and are armed in such situation is to hit the floor, call 911 and stay down.

How can you even think that with tear gas and mass hysteria you would be able to get clear shot. Since he had body armor & riot helmet, good shot would be next to impossible.

Maybe I should look into some body armor for me and my family before next time we go see a movie

    People are fucked up

I read on a fox news post on my phone this morning that there were already OT LEO on site as part of usual security for a theater, and they were the ones who detained the shooter. I'm not blaming the police at all, they did what they could and they have my respect. The point I was trying to make was that even with police in the very near vicinity, they cannot physically move fast enough to protect people from an event like this, thus the reason people should be prepared to defend themselves.

So what EXACTLY would you have done in your situation? "Defend" yourself? Or hid under the seats? Run for the exit?

Honestly? I would have made myself small and waited for an opportunity to take a shot with minimal chances of an errant shot striking an innocent bystander.

I really don't see why so many folks here have a problem with self defense. I understand the majority of CCW holders do not have formal training beyond their CCW course and plinking at the range, but I do. I served in the US Army and have had consistent training and practice since I got out. I am in a generally better position than most to make a judgement call like that, and I am very aware of that fact.

i wouldn't pretend to know what i "would've" done, ...i don't think you can really know, unless you're actually in situation... you prepare for the worst, ..hope for the best... a "crowded theater" can be risky place, of course because of this event, but because of many things like fire... but, the most important thing is to be pragmatic in knowing that living life in "condition white" is the worst preparation, unless you're more lucky than good ;)

A Police officers job is to deal with the problem and clean up after the crime has occured not to prevent such.. Sad yes! Horrific act of cowardness. Prayers to those who are inflicted and effected .. God bless.

I think that's a reasonable approach to take.

I think most folks have an issue with the extreme position that if a few more folks in the crowd had been armed - the whole thing would have been avoided, or that gunning down the perp is more important than *not* hitting anyone else.

The situation was more complex than it appears (it first looked like a fire, or new movie promotional special effects, not a shooter incident, right?)

And as soon as we cross over that fine and delicate line and become willing to risk an innocent life in order to bring down a perpetrator, we become what we despise - a killer of innocents.

Prayers to the victims and their families.

My six year old is well behaved in a theatre, and it would be one of those things where she would always look back and say, "Daddy, remember the time you woke me up to go see that movie at midnight?" For some, they're just idiots who want to see the movie so drag their kid along. For others, they are probably like me in that my kids goes to bed at 8, and is well behaved. She'd be over the moon for a special night with Daddy (that sounded inappropriate...). That being said, I don't think Batman would be the one I'd do it with.

I see bringing a 6 yr old as they can understand the movie and enjoy the experience. What I don't understand is the 3 month old baby. Granted I have no idea of the situation that lead the person bringing that baby to the theater but as a parent subjecting an infant to the typical decibel levels in a theater is irresponsible. That is a tragedy that could have been avoided through common sense. But that is just my opinion.
