A Toyota backed warranty honored by all Toyota dealers nationwide is hardly a scam.

1st of all, stop going to the Dealership. Did you notice all those leaks before you went in???

See how bad that timing cover leak is. Might just be seepage. But agree with others - go to indy and get a 2nd opinion. Did dealer give pics or video? I had a GTI where the VW dealer, the tech took a quick video to show all the items he went over while he was under the car. Surprised more dealers don't do this.

Dealer prices are a joke . I would go to independent shop and get a second opinion and pricing .

I'd sell it to different dealer and buy another. 12k is a nice down payment. You should get what, 20k at least on the 17, probably more. Finance the rest skip the add ons in the finance department. New truck that will go 400k miles, that's under factory warranty. What's the issue? it's almost like they are doing you a favor.

Have your engine and undercarriage washed/detailed for $100.
Drive it for a week or so.
Open a beer and pop your hood.
Inspect your engine, suspension, and lay under your truck (take a nap).
Take pictures and post them so we can see.

23 is the best year of the 3rd gen, maybe 20. There's also the Super White paint issue that could arise, yeah he'd miss out on that sweet class action settlement money but a new truck could make up for that.

Out of curiosity, when the service advisor presented you with this shopping list, did he/she offer to take you down into the shop and show you the issues? Like others have pointed out, I would not only look at reputable independents, but also price shop other dealers.

Pricing will differ between dealerships as far as hourly labor rate and also parts prices. Just because they are a dealership, doesn't mean they can't mark parts/labor up to achieve a gross profit goal. At the dealership I worked at, we would routinely be cheaper than the other local dealerships. I know this because people would routinely price shop me.

The prices you were quoted are over the top crazy.

A lot of mechanics don't know the difference between a leak and a seep. If the ball joints/rod ends pass the shake and jack under tire test it's good if the boots aren't split. Sway bar end links are low on the priority list. Grease thins out a lot in the AZ temps.

All the steering racks have had evidence of a seep in all gen Tacomas I have owned. As far as the fan clutch "leaking" there would be fluid slinging on the fan and shroud. The timing cover gasket, that might suck hopefully a seep if that.
