Trust me it is quite possible a small dealer was never under the truck on a lift .

    Different states have different laws

The OP missed the rust even being aware of the problem

I have a friend driving a 02 every day with both sides about like yours he just has not made up his mind to have me repair it.

If you can fix it yourself go for it paying could get a tad expensive .

As these frames were built in America by a company that did not survive this little mistake

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
So who's making the replacement frames? I thought dana corp was still doing them for all Tacomas.

He paid over 10 grand for a 13 year old truck thats not even safe to drive. He shouldnt have to go through repairing the frame if he doesn't have to.

Wow, now thats a frame replacement there. OP call Toyota first see what your options are there 1st. if that fails, then go option B. Frames for that truck are pretty pricey depending on what model you have $3600.00 plus possible freight. Is is really an option to do weld patches? that frame looks in sad shape, Once you start cleaning it up I'm sure more holes or cracks are bound to show up. Good luck with it OP.

As-Is still means you have to disclose issues. It then means that you're not claiming any responsibility to fix anything (what you see is what you get) and that you can't offer any help if something happens.

So the question is did they know the frame was compromised? If they stated they didn't inspect it, then maybe they didn't know or at least have plausible deniability. If they offered a certification, warranty or something similar then you have to assume they are either lying or incompetent. It's a tough spot unfortunately because it's also your responsibility as a buyer to do your due diligence. Now if they had undercoated or painted the frame or had left it especially dirty trying to cover it up then you have fraud. I'd probably consult a law talking guy about this because it doesn't seem like a smooth road ahead.

Typically, the “As Is - No Warranty “ phrase is found on a window sticker on vehicles offered for sale on used car lots. At its essence, the phrase means exactly what it implies. The vehicle to which the “As Is - No Warranty” sticker is affixed is offered for sale with all risk to be assumed by the buyer. The seller will not be held responsible for any problems or needed repairs after the sale.

Just for grins, let’s say you buy a used car with that sticker in the window, drive it off the lot, and at the first traffic signal the engine dies. You’re sitting there twisting the key frantically—but the engine does not respond—the car is absolutely dead. Positively volcanic with anger, you leave the car where it died, walk back around the corner to the lot and tell the salesperson the car is dead around the corner.

Thing is, at that point, you’re completely at their mercy.

If they’re an empathetic sort of person, they might come back around the corner with jumper cables to see if they can help you get the car started so you can make your way home. However, legally, they can also very well tell you; ”Sorry, there’s nothing we can do—it’s your car now, not ours. Have a nice day.”

In other words, if you buy a used car with the As Is - No Warranty sticker, you have to come out of pocket for all repairs, even if the car breaks down on your way home from the lot. And while some states prohibit the practice, if you live in a state where it isn’t prohibited you’ll need to be aware that when you buy a car with this sticker in the window; what you see is what you get.

But it could just as well be a case of what you don’t see is also what you get.

No warranty doesn't necessarily mean they don't have to disclose issues. It varies by state and there's also sometimes a period for when the seller/dealer is really no longer responsible. It may be a few days, for example, so in @Brianz1001 example of it dying on the drive off the lot the As-Is may not void their responsibility.

The consumer protection laws often assume that it's impossible with things like houses an cars to practically inspect everything sufficiently on the spot or even in a hasty pre-sale mechanic or contractor inspection, so you get time post-sale time to find issues that might not have been apparent or intentionally concealed.

PLEASE STOP saying weld this frame... the metal has de-laminated and it is IMPOSSIBLE to WELD. Toyota certainly would have issued welding instructions rather than issue $12,300.00 frames to owners of these trucks. You're just giving false hopes of a cheap and easy remedy.
