Nice to see another taco saved from the scrap yard. Toyota really dropped the ball on replacing the frames on these 1st gens. Like I told the woman on the phone from Toyota today, no magical rust proofing spray treatment would have stopped the rust issue my Tacoma's frame has. Yours is about 500% worse too! even further justifying my statement. Total bs

If a truck is outta the warranty period then its the owners problem to deal with. Toyota wont toutch it. The owner either parts it out or fixes the frame on their own dime.

This is the best piece of advice here. Everyone is forgetting he bought a USED truck and didn't even take 30 seconds to lay on the ground with a flash light and look at the frame. So many people want to pass the buck off these days. What amount of responsibility is on the buyer? I say a lot.

OP I think you need to chalk this up as a life lesson and realize you paid 10k+ to go to school. I bet that every truck car you buy from now one you'll look at the frame.

Get on CL and find a wrecked Tacoma with a good frame or have one shipped to you from that source in NC and get to work. Should only take you a few weekends to get it all swapped over.

    I agree.

I've said often, educations can be painful, embarrassing or expensive...or all three.

If a lesson was learned, than this thread was worth posting.

Thanks OP. You have helped yourself as well as others.

In my defense I did look at the frame before buying and this damage was not visible at the time, the only way of knowing at the time the extent of the rust would have been taking a hammer to it which I did not. I'm sure now that it became visible after all the twisting and off road flexing. Even so I have learned a lot more about frame repair and these trucks because of it and will make sure I know more about factory warranty requirements before buying. In the end it cost me $500 and have a stronger frame than ever. A good base to weld some frame sliders to in the future. Here is how I picked it up:

looks good man, just make sure to spray something on it to keep it from rusting out again.
