does anyone know the length of the master cylinder push rod on a 2002 Tacoma 3.4 automatic pre runner. I put new master cyl, on and the dude at the parts place unscrewed the bracket on the rod and didn't count how many turns he made, was pissed because I had him take it off because the new one didn't have the bracket on it.... anyway I been looking and haven't found anything Thanks

that's why you got the replies that you did, there is no adjustment to the master cylinder, only the booster has a rod length adjustment and they never come with the yoke bracket, you have to swap those out after carefully measuring the space from the old booster before removing it and installing it in the same position on the new booster.

also, unless the booster was leaking vacuum, you wasted your time and money replacing it for no reason.

lemme guess, the guy at parts place said you needed to replace both of them? those idiots that work there no very little if anything about cars and what they do know, they googled that info.

at this point without even knowing the details you haven't provided, im thinking you may not have even solved the actual problem, but just started changing parts at random based on bad advice from the parts place.

mechanicjon provided you the adjustment info you need but now that that issue is resolved, what was your original problem with the truck to begin with?

this is hard to explain so bare with me, my brake pedal would get real hard sometimes and other time it work great, put when it got real hard and on wet roads the right brake would lock up and slide, if I pushed it real hard the pedal would pop and everything was back to normal again till it did it again sometimes weeks or maybe right away, so I converted the front brake to the tundra conversion, and now it still doing same thing, so I put on a master cylinder and booster and it is still doing the same thing... It just does it when it wants to and other times it fine. but the brake pedal get hard and if I push it real hard it makes that popping sound then all is good or it may do it right away again. I have lub up brake pedal linkage and took the brakes and calibers off and checked for anything wrong took master cylinder off and booster and ck., the only thing Ive come up with is when they screwed the yoke off he forgot to count the # of turns and I ask him too.( hope this make a little senses)

I got great news for you and bad news for you, I just went through all of that myself and ended up at the dealership to solve the problem.

I put on 2 master cylinders and went through 3 boosters before finally figuring out the problem.

the good news is I can tell you what the problem is, its your abs system that is going out on you, it costs $2400 at the dealer or $1200 for an aftermarket one

good news is, you can find them on ebay and mine is fixed now, most prices I found averaged around $100 for them so I was stoked to find one for $65

go here and enter your vin number to confirm the part number you need for your 02 http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/q.html

if its the same part number as my 04 taco (44510-04050) then look here I found you one at the same price http://www.ebay.com/itm/2004-TOYOTA-TACOMA-ABS-Actuator-Pump-Assembly-4x2-44510-04050-OEM-Autogator-/132196937876?fits=Make:Toyota&hash=item1ec78d3094:g:eeYAAOSw42dZHiVV&vxp=mtr

but im pretty sure the 44510-04050 part numbers were only for the 03-04 trucks so you probably need to get one with a different part number to fit your 02. also 4wd and 2wd use different part numbers, the units "look" the same, but I think the plug has extra wires for 4wd or something

Thank you so much for that info,I will definitely look into it. I heard that you can disconnect the ABS module is just so one wheel wont lock up before the others is this correct

yep, unplug it and the pedal will be firmer then normal (at least mine was) but the brakes will work properly again with no more hard pedal.

the plug locking clip on it is kinda funny so be careful not to break it and it releases by pushing the clip towards the abs box which is the way things normally would snap on to lock the plug in place, which is why your brain things it should not go that way but that's how it is. its like your brain says to you your folding it the wrong way lol

its on top or passenger fender under hood, right in front of windshield wiper motor. you cant miss it with all the brake lines running to it

this is what it looks like and you start by carefully pry the plastic guard off first, then disconnect the brake lines, then remove the support bracket bolts. because the pump has to be removed to get the pump off and the new one installed. now losen the nuts on the two front bolts and rotate the pump out, then pull the rubber mounts from the old pump and push them into the new pump. then retighten the mounting bolt nuts before reinstalling the mounting bracket.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/disable-abs-control-module-or-buy-used-2001-tacoma.386455/page-2

personally I would not leave a bad abs pump in there, if it was working fine and you just wanted to unplug it I see no harm, but since your has some sort of blockage issue like mine had, its not going to be safe and may continue to cause issues so you definitely should replace it. after that and the brakes work ok, you can then unplug the one that works if you wish to. just my 2 1/2 cents worth of advice on it
