I am needing to rebuild the brake MC on my '96 5 lug. Where is the best place to get the kit? AC Delco kits any good? Specific brand you would recommend? OEM kit looks like its about as much a whole new aftermarket MC.

    Thanks

I have used the ones you get at NAPA on my Toyota Motorhome and my 98 Taco. No problems at all with either. Pretty basic part. But - you can't beat OEM. Pay a little extra for peace of mind or gamble the non OEM one. Either way - it's a dead simple repair. Don't rebuild them - just replace.

With what brand? I have been advised not to go Cardone or any of the cheap China ones of RockAuto. Not forking out $250+ for OEM either. You have a specific one you would recommend?

Well, I've had issues with the master and slave clutch cylinders. (replaced the master clutch cylinder 3 times to be exact). The issue is with the aftermarket stuff. Something about the aftermarket cylinders for our trucks they just never work out and start leaking.

AISIN is the only company i trust now for master and slave clutch and master brake cylinders. That's the OEM brand, but it's cheaper from other sources like RockAuto than Dealer.

Ok, I couldnt find an Aisin brake master cyl when I looked. Looked for an Aisin kit but couldnt find one either. Might just get a aftermarket rebuild kit for @ $30 and try that out.

So I go to start looking for a aftermarket rebuild kit...and I cant even find one for the Tacoma! They are all for other models of cars. Arrgh. OEM kit is $60 too.

Does anybody have experience with Beck Arnley MC's? Thats the one brand I think might be decent. That or Raybestos?

I've found the hard way that a Toyota truck is just the sum of its parts. I've bolted Chinese junk on it and it's failed. I've bolted Napa Gold Parts on it, with some parts better than others, but I've found you just can't beat OEM for quality, longevity and future resale. Some day you can tell the potential buyer of your truck that you used all Toyota parts. May not mean anything to your average joe, but it would if I was buying your truck.

As for the MC, I've rebuilt mine with Toyota parts with good results.

    Thread Revive!

I am wanting to rebuild my OEM brake master cylinder without ABS (04493-35330), but it's discontinued! There is a rebuild kit for the master cylinder with ABS (04493-3D010), is there any chance it's compatible?

I went ahead and paid 50 for the piston kit with ABS. The pistons do not match, but I was able to swap the seals and accomplish the same thing. It's a shame it cost so much for just a few rubber bits - does anyone else have a better idea for next time? Could not find any aftermarket rebuild kits for our trucks at the parts store.
