I'm trying to match the stock look of the fender flare b/c I had to replace one of mine. The dealership that did my truck repainted it and it is shiny compared to the other fenders. I'm wondering what I need to do to get that stock (not as shiny) look. Thanks for your help!!

There is a considerable difference between the new painted fender and the stock painted fender. Almost an orange peel effect.

Has anybody had to replace a fender flare since 2005? If so what did you do to make it match?

It's on my dads Tacoma. The repainted flare is shiny like the body of the truck unlike the other three stock painted flares. I'm wondering if they can order a pre-painted flare to match the rest.

I had the small front lower portion replaced about a year ago at a Toyota dealer and it looks just like the rest of the stock ones (textured or whatever)

When my truck was done the body shop told me the replacement ones come painted. The shop shouldn't paint them at all.

Go back to the shop and tell them it does not match, and they have to rectify it. Either make them replace it with a new one or paint all the other ones to match.

I was wondering this myself. I had mine redone after a minor collision and it doesn't have the "textered" look either.

So the only option is to replace it with a pre-painted one from Toyota?

Found out today red, blue, and black comes painted. That's it. They still need to rectify the situation.

If the shop repaired the flare, they likely sanded out the texture from the flare. If that's the case, it will never look like the other flares. You'll need a replacement.

Can you get a good picture of it? If so, post it up, so I can get a better look at it.

Oh, and if you claimed the repair under your insurance, keep in mind that you can file a complaint with your insurance company, and they will (or should) follow up with the bodyshop, and get the situation figured out.

Thanks for all the help. He's going to make them order another flare and try again.

I checked with my local dealer and found out its not available pre-painted for Impulse red but it is for Radiant red.

Bummer, I was hoping to get my repainted passenger flare back to the non-shiney OEM look.

Very old thread but Ill fire it back up. Had same problem with my bumper of my 2014 they could not match the texture on the little end cap. They reordered the part several times to no avail the paint shop said their paint was just 'too thick". I refused to accept the work they eventually took the part off another Tacoma on the lot. Bad new is ive found two 1 inch crack on each lower corners of the bumpers and im terrified of this turning into the same nightmare problems with being too shiny/ no orange peel texture etc. Anyone else dealt with this?

I believe there are different part numbers for the trucks that came with black fender flares, and the color matched. The color matched have an orange peel texture to the plastic, and the base model ones are smooth. Your dealership may have put the wrong part on there.

They claimed it was the correct part but were just unable to re create the finish. This whole idea has me nervous now because my truck is about to go in for a crack in the paint on lower bumper about 1/4in long. Not major but its a warranty issue that id hate to let go and get worse but on the other hand if they were to repaint the bumper may be the same nightmare all over again. I guess idk if a crack justifies a complete repaint or what the fix is for that.
