On my 2020 TRD Off Road I will be moving from the OEM stock 16” wheels to OEM TRD Pro 16” wheels. Going to keep the stock 265/70r16 GY Kevlar tires until they need replacing. (In the future if I changed tire size I would get 5 new tires). My plan was to just get 4 new wheels to help reduce cost of the upgrade. If I ever needed to use the spare will the fact that the spare stock OEM rim has a 1/2” different offset and is a few pounds heavier cause any issues? Would drive on the spare rim only until I could get the new TRD Pro wheel/tire repaired.

Stay out of 4X drive. No problems.

Unless you're going to go with a 5 way tire rotation there is no reason to buy 5 new tires. At least as long as the 4 tires on the truck aren't significantly larger. The spare is ~31" tall. If you're running anything 33" or smaller the spare you have is fine.

It wouldn't hurt to run in 4X4 as long as all 4 tires on the truck are the same, or very close to the same diameter. They can be different sizes on different size rims. It is only overall diameter that matters. If you put the spare on and it is a different diameter then 4X4 shouldn't be used.

Thanks. The fact that the spare OEM wheel has a 1/2” different offset and is a few pounds heavier than the new TRD Pro wheels is not a concern for temporary use?

I'm thinking about getting a 5th wheel/tire as a spare. My spare is 17 inches with 265/65/17 and my four main wheels and tires are 16x8-12 265/75/16.

You'll be fine with that size spare unless you're doing a lot off road and expect to need to be in 4hi on a spare. Even then it's close enough that off-road lower traction should allow enough slipping to prevent any damage. Rather than buying a new wheel just get a 265/70/17 for the stock spare steelie if you want matching sizes.

I didn't even think about upgrading the tire size for the spare. I'm actually planning on getting a 5th wheel because RRW is going to stop production on my current set sometime in the future

If you are going with OEM wheels then your spare wheel will work fine in an emergency. However, if you are going aftermarket, you should go with a spare that uses the same type of lugnuts.

Good callout! Hadn’t ever thought of having different lugnuts to match spares.

The OEM Spare is a steel wheel, I'm sure it's the same spare between the Pro and OR so you are fine.

Great point. I assumed that the spare wheel was the same as the other 4 wheels, but it is a steel wheel. So I will just keep using that steel spare wheel with the 4 new Pro wheels when I get them.

    Thanks everyone for the responses.

The rim diameter doesn't matter as long as the tire diameter is the same.

My plan is to run 6 wheels. 4 on, 1 under, 1 in garage. Rotate them in and out through the 6. When they're off, I can hit them with more plasti derp and keep them looking good :D Plus I know a few places I plan to go where having a second spare for a long trip (IE: Northern Maine Woods, road to Tuktayuktuk (never going to spell it right), easy to just toss an extra spare in the bed.

Your factory lugnuts will work with the factory steel spare too as they have a little taper at the end.
