Back in school when I started getting out and had a preliminary AAA roadside assistance account with only 7 miles of towing I broke down around Red Rock Canyon. After finding a ride where I got cell service I got a truck with a flat bed to come pick me up and I was concerned about the mileage. The driver didn't charge me all the way (6 miles) until another call he had at Jawbone Canyon. Might not have been a fraudulent charge, but similar mentality it seems to not take cash out of a person's pocket but potentially from AAA.

Whoops. Probably shouldn’t put the fraudulent claim’s recovery on YouTube. Not helping yourself there.

I’ve seen this happen in the past with other YouTube channels I followed. They got successful on YouTube and then people they wronged or crossed in the past or that just didn’t like them started digging shit up and got them into legal troubles. I guess that’s the risk of putting your life on blast on the internet.

I’m not defending or condoning Matt, I don’t have a strong emotional connection as some viewers seem to. I just like to watch him pull folks out of sticky situations. As far as I’m concerned it’s between him, AAA, and the court but it will be interesting to see how it plays out.

I’m not sure if this fits the bill. “Wholesome” guys are typically good people. I’d be much more worried about sketchy guys, criminals and drug addicts towing my car and would say that’s who you really need to watch out foro_O yes good people commit crimes but definitely not as frequent or severe as bad people. Matt was trying to do good by giving his customers a break by essentially screwing over AAA. Not saying it’s right but that’s the “wrong on the front end but fair on he back end” part of it. I’m not defending him by any means, he was just trying to help his customers out by doing what he thought was good. But was more or less condoning stealing from big companies or corporations

$15k seems pretty insignificant, as far as insurance fraud goes. Bet if he wasnt a Youtube star AAA would have just called him and said pay it back then they would be done with it or cut his contract. They and Utah will have way more invested then they will get back. Body shops all over fudge numbers on work to insurance companies. Not to mention hail claims on houses and contractors. This is why your rates are so high, lol. AAA or Utah is goin after him because he is on Youtube. Not that i condone any of this, but doubt it would be playing out this way if he wasnt a "star".

I dunno if billing AAA for the same job 3 times is really helping the customer out any…

Just started watching the latest vid and he now has sponsors he’s advertising for in the video. I’d wager they’ll drop him after this.

    Like, so many.
That second article has more details. I think charges will be reduced and he'll pay a fine. He's making way more money off YT than towing at this point, I would imagine, and risking all of that for 15k just doesn't make sense.

Not enough bandwidth on the internet to list.
Just a random thought I had this morning. Ain't it grand that the insurance industry has a government agency that checks up and watches over us end users that pay for the services all while the industry itself, with minimal oversight, bends us over every hour of the day, time and time again in it's effort to maximize its profits.

If you have been following the channel for a while you remember Casey, who used to team up with Matt and hit him with a cease and desist order, pertaining to using him/footage of him on Matt’s channel. Now he runs a rival (very small rival currently) channel with some of Matt’s old characters from MORR, ie Randy.

Casey is out for blood…or something, I bet.

Once you are in the limelight all the leaches and parasites come out. This should stay between AAA and him, and not have his name/channel drung through the mud.

lol. Privacy is an illusion. Especially when you start voluntarily uploading videos about your business online, you are waving all expectations of privacy. He will likely gain more followers from this since everyone is now talking about him. There is no such thing as bad publicity.

It seems like a lot of you hold this total stranger in very high regard without knowing anything about him outside of what he wants to show you. Very naive. I’ve watched plenty of his videos, he’s just another dude who probably had lots of skeletons in his closet like any other person. Also, in my experience if someone starts calling someone else out for shady shit, there is usually some truth to the accusations.

People are generally trash and if you think otherwise, likely you’re either too young, haven’t taken enough chances or both.

I get it that no one likes insurance companies, but they exist to make maximum profit for their shareholders/investors, which is exactly what they should be doing.

Government bureaucrats, on the other-hand, increase the costs of goods & services by over-regulating the industry and requiring extensive administrative procedures in exchange for limiting competition. Personally, I'd prefer to have many more insurance companies to choose from with lower costs, but due to government regulation, the market is very costly to get into and dominated by a few key players.

Insurance companies exist to profit at all cost, no matter life or death while shielding those profiting from any and all responsibility and liability no matter the consequences to secure said profits. This is standard, no matter the corporation. You’d think an insurance company would be there to insure people are taken care of when they are vulnerable but it’s for-profit which mean “For us” and not “For you.”
It’s funny that you’re also required by law to purchase services from this for-profit company in order to operate you’re personal property on public roads paid for by you.
If you do not purchase these services and are caught operating your personal property on said public roads, you will be held accountable and suffer the consequences unlike the for-profit corporation which shields it’s profiteers.
It would be nice if we could shield ourselves from the consequences of our actions like them but that’s not how the game is played.

On the other hand…the politics you mention above are simple. The illusion of choice. I won’t discuss that since we don’t do politics here.

    …so many run-on sentences…

Back to the topic of Matt’s Off-road Recovery, he’s an idiot for talking to the investigators without a lawyer.
Number 1 rule when dealing with law enforcement: Shut the fuck up.
There is nothing you can say to law enforcement that will help you, it can and will only be used against you in the end.

Quick question, can I fit 265/75R16’s without rubbing if I get a long-travel 3” spacer lift off eBay? My parents won’t let me cut into the brand new Tacoma they just bought me for passing my drivers permit test. Thanks fam!
