So I think we can all agree Matt knows what he's doing...

What do y'all think of him using a tri ball hitch as a yank point? If I were there I wouldn't say a thing because he's a pro, but I've always been told 'never use a ball hitch as a recovery point'

Matt goes in depth on this in several videos. He says he only uses it in certain situations and the tri hitch is far better than a single one. Not to mention he's also using kinetic energy rope, and not solid tow straps. It depends on if he's just pulling someone from being stuck in the sand in their 2WD or if he's pulling a full size pickup and the attached camper, for example.

Yeah, the kinetic ropes are so much smoother than tow straps and snatch straps. The triple ball also gives 3 shear points compared to one.

Those kinetic ropes never cease to amaze me.

Matt goes into the whole ball hitch recovery point at 7:05 here:

Matt doesn't call out anyone specifically, and neither does Ronny Dahl on Youtube, but Ronny did a "tow ball recovery goes wrong" video (and into it they start cutting the ball shank in half). :notsure:

My girlfriend randomly bought these for me. I honestly didn't know I watched his show enough to deserve a couple decals

Why doesn't Matt use sliders? Is it to save weight?

He seems like he only gets stuff he feels that he needs - Usually he is taking some pretty easy trails to "get em out" and maybe he just feels like sliders is a bit overboard for his uses. I mean he literally rolled like 8 tires off the bead before he finally said eff it and got/made some beadlocks lol

Yeah, probably the weight. He also doesn't care about looks or body damage.
He has so much clearance and doesn't often come close to hitting his body.
Its a tool that he uses and figures it to be expendable

XJs are also a short wheel base and he's usually in sand. I've got a Jeep TJ with sliders and my wife only uses them as steps. :)

You’re not wheeling your TJ hard enough then.

I suspect most people don't! :) I am mostly in mud with some tight forests, which are still easier to drive through than pickups. Still, I wouldn't put them on Matt's XJ either.

I feel like if anything Matt would get to the point where he has taught Rudy and others to do recoveries while he can stay back and work on the clerical side of the business and the Youtube channel. I would be okay if Rudy took over though haha he is entertaining enough to watch!

Casey has his own company but Matt use to call him if he needed extra assistance I'm pretty sure...
