I purchased Matt Gecko's under hood LED lighting ket for my 2009 Tacoma. The kit includes a push button switch. Has anyone installed some kind of switch that activates when the hood opens? Obviously I can try to locate a switch that might work then try to find a spot to mount it but I figured if it's been done by others it might save me some headaches and time.

    thx

I am not too familiar with the Matt Gecko set up, but if it uses a relay, you can easily tie 86 to a hot source, and 85 to a ground switch that trips when the hood is opened.

Makes sense, it doesn't use a rely but I could put one in. But any suggestions for a ground switch to use?

Just a basic one like you would use with an alarm should suffice.

You can also hook it up without the relay if it is low enough amperage. You just want to make sure it doesn’t arc when the switch is made. But hook one side of the lights straight to a constant 12v+, and the other side to a switch like that.

Added a bunch of stuff. Cut to fit 285 AT3’s
I’m going to have to get this added to the list of wiring projects in the near future.

I've used a brake light switch for a similar application.
