I was going to plasti-dip the side mirror covers black on my 2017 Super White, but I just found that there are matte black mirrors covers available from Toyota, and they are only $38.15 ea. from Camelback Toyota Parts.

Has anyone installed the matte black side mirror covers on a 3rd Gen, and if so how difficult is it to remove the the covers, as I have read that they pop off using a hook type tool, and If you have pictures of the mirrors with the matte black covers please post them up, and what models came with the matte black covers

link for buying them? I dipped mine, took them off, its a bit scary as it feels like they might break in half cause they're plastic. but you just gotta give it some force at the correct angle.

Here's the link to Camelback Toyota Parts.
    https://parts.camelbacktoyota.com/parts/2016/Toyota/Tacoma/SR5/?siteid=214329&vehicleid=469406&section=BODY HARDWARE&group=FRONT DOOR&subgroup=OUTSIDE MIRRORS

The part number for the left side matte black mirror cover is 87945-04050 at $38.15

The part number for the right side matte black mirror cover is 87915-04050 at $38.15

The left side cover is on page 2, and the right side cover is on page 5.

I ordered the black SR rear bumper caps and my bed mat from them and I just call them up and place my order, and the number is 877-840-8881, and ask for Amanda.

I just ordered the covers, and I'll be selling my Super White covers after I do the swap.

So did you start and any particular spot, and did you use any type of hook tool to get behind them to pry them off, or did you just use your hands.

The parts schematic does not show any type of clips, so I assume that the covers have built in clips that hook around the lip on the main mirror housing, and a lot of this style of attachment require squeezing in on the cover to release the hooks as you pull out on it.

Start on the inside using a plastic paint scraper and they pop right off. They aren't as fragile as they may seem. They come off fairly easy.

ye do exactly that^^ its hard to describe but once you pop it out a little you should be able to feel it out and get and idea of which way to tug on it, i didn't break any clips and i was not too gentle haha, hope it works out for you. ps how much are you wanting for your painted covers. I might be interested in a second set.

From experience. The matte black is only if you don't have turn signal mirrors. Other wise you are SOL. Even the aftermarket options are gloss black, had to have mine wrapped in vinyl

I plasti dipped mine a week ago, I followed everyone’s instructions and I did end up breaking one of the plastic hooks on one of the mirrors haha. But it still clips in and is completely securedFE60A2E9-EBC0-415A-AD6D-A0674B2A8A53.jpg
