Diff seal seemed to be still leaking, so I replaced it again today. Hope I got it this time.....And while doing that I noticed some play in my tire if I wiggle it in the 3 and 9 o'clock positions. I think that indicates bad tie rods? Up and down (12 and 6 o'clock) shows no play so I don't suspect ball joints, and if it was a wheel bearing I'd think it to wiggle in all directions.

Things I need just posting here to keep track of:

    inner tie rod (2) - 45503-39075 $212.22
    outer tie rod (L) - 45047-39175 $65.89
    outer tie rod (R) - 45046-39295 $65.89
    boots (2) - 45535-35030 $27.38
    inner boot clamp (2) - 90460-62006 $8.30
    outer boot clamp (2) - 90467-33005 $5.66
upstream O2 sensor - 89467-35060 $278.30 (I think this is the correct part number)

    upgraded alternator
"big three upgrade" - Doesn't someone here sell a kit for this?
If I do that then I should add a busman box and circuit breaker too
    :rain:

Edit: Camelback Toyota's online pricing is much better, and free shipping! Maybe I'll be able to continue to eat this month after all.

Today I finished all of that ^ minus the alternator and such. Got the tie rods, rack bushings, and new O2 sensor installed. The truck feels much more stable when I hit bumps and potholes now.

Eight days til I leave for Colorado...Just ordered a transmission cooler and an iPad mount for ease of use with Gaia GPS. Tomorrow I'm going to remove my alternator and have it tested. If it tests bad (which I hope it does), I'll see if it still has a warranty and swap it for a new one and potentially buy the CS144 alternator as well. That way I can install the CS144 and have a spare if it craps out. Saturday I might try to fab up a transmission pan skid plate. Why do I put everything off til the last minute? Why am I like this?

 for CO trip. Dude I went through these same feels a couple weeks ago prepping for a trip. It always is a great motivator for mods though.

Kinda the south-central region I think. I’m not in charge of the route...I need to import it into my Gaia app
    You’re right about that!

Enjoy Colorado! By far, my favorite state to wheel in, is Colorado. If you're going to Lake City/Silverton/Ouray area, you'll have a great time. I was just out earlier in July. Have fun!

Transmission skid is complete and painted. I welded angle iron in an X on the top side as a reinforcement. Snagged one pic before paint...

Today I got new, higher quality coax ran for my CB radio so hopefully it’ll work better. Tomorrow afternoon I plan to reinstall my rear bumpstops and trim the excess length off the Ubolts.

My transmission cooler arrived today so I have that to do as well. Leaving in 4 days!

Thursday night at midnight I drove my truck out of the shop with a new alternator, new cb coax cable, new homebuilt transmission skid plate, new auxiliary transmission cooler, old wiring removed, rear bump stops reinstalled, u bolts trimmed so they aren’t sticking down so far, and probably some other small items I’m forgetting.

My Ram mount for my iPad arrived today so I’ll have a good view of the trail maps, and my Viair 400p compressor also showed up. Those are two items I’ve been needing for years :woot:

I have the rest of the day (today) to organize and pack all my gear, go to the grocery store, run by the hardware store to get some better bolts for my skid plate, and lastly I need to mow the yard before I leave. Saturday morning is going to be here quick and then I’ll be on my way to Colorado! Can’t wait to get out of the Texas heat for a while.

Departed the house at 4:45 this morning. Colorado bound!

Already re-discovered how much my suspension sucks and needs upgraded, and I’m sure after spending time in the mountains I’ll “need” a supercharger too. :D

So I took my fan clutch off and it’s very tight when compared with the other vehicles at the house. It won’t freely spin at all, where the other vehicles will spin maybe a half a turn or so. All at the same temperature...seems like it’s catching all the time? Not really sure why it’s acting funny. Gonna just get a new one anyway and see what happens. I wonder if I may need a new radiator?

Think I’m just going to order a new fan clutch since I’m not sure if this one is original to the truck or not. They’re cheap enough anyway.

    863F98EE-41CE-47ED-B2A0-6BB092A03CDC.jpg

I had a late night in the shop tonight wrestling with my leaf springs. Hours and many strings of profanity later, I have it all back together and closed the gap that we spotted while coming back from Colorado on my driver side between the main leaf and the second leaf that wraps around. I don’t have a before photo, but on the driver side, the 2nd leaf (and I presume all leafs below it) was shifted forward a bit and we suspected that was the reason for my steering to be slightly off and my truck driving crooked down the highway. I managed to get it pretty dang close and I’ll be replacing these worn out leaf packs eventually anyway.

    63D21797-B576-43DC-9F65-D9E964C11545.jpg CDA1062A-3A66-41F2-BC3D-69524C2124D5.jpg

Hopefully, this will make the truck drive straighter. Can’t test it until I get a new fan clutch in of course.
