Woo woooo got some tires to get me through the rest of college.

265/70/17 BFG KO2s wrapped around 4Runner Trail edition wheels. The tires have 36k miles on them and look incredible. My Cooper ATPs have less than that and are toast.

This isn't part of the Tacoma build, but I guess it's kind of a Cessna build.

Got the valve train, intake tubes, and oil return lines installed and am now at a stopping point until I can get a longer push rod. I guess we can actually start the annual inspection while we wait on that! This has been a super fun project. It'll be even cooler once it runs :D

Time for some maintenance! I also mocked up what my new-to-me wheels and tires are going to look like once I get them mounted. Won't happen until the winter though.

Oil change and power steering flush today. Was about to start the transmission flush and realized I forgot to pick up a new crush washer for the drain bolt so that will wait until next weekend.

If anyone wants to see my photos from my semester in Australia, here is the link to my Facebook album. I think you should be able to view them even if you don't have an account.

Don't worry, I'm still alive. Here's a short video of some footage I combined from multiple flights over the past year or so. I can't wait to get back to the states and get back in the air!

    :pccoffee:

WOW! An update to the truck!! I finally got my synthetic winch rope installed that has been sitting in my room for a year.

I grinded and repainted the bumper where the steel cable had scored it up when spooling around the drum. I wanted it as smooth as possible to prevent snagging of my nice new rope.

    IMG_3477.jpg

Then I removed some light surface rust from the drum and painted it so it was also nice and smooth to not snag the rope. The tape I used to mask off the rest of the winch was so sticky that it removed the finish in some places.

    IMG_3495.jpg

I also removed my pair of 6" LED fog lights because they were useless with the HID headlights. I could see no difference at all on the road, so I figured I could stick them on a tractor or something else later.

    IMG_3478.jpg

Spooling on the new rope with a little tractor to apply tension. 100' 3/8" 10,000lb breaking strength.
    IMG_3498.jpg

Finished! Now I want a black shackle to go with the blackness of the fairlead and FlatLink. I also intend to get some type of cover to go over the winch drum to protect the rope. Not sure when I'll get around to that, but I'm not too worried about it at this moment. I saved 40 pounds off my front end by doing this, so that's a win for sure!

Holy moly! Another update? What? Who would have thought I had things for my truck sitting in my garage so long without being installed!

Today I threw on some new-to-me 4R Trail edition wheels and 265/70/17 BFG KO2s. Tires have about half life left and should last me until I graduate next December. Then when these wear out, I’ll get some 33s!

Wheels look good! We bought my wife a 2016 4Runner Trail. About the only thing she wants to change is the wheels. She likes the ones on it but she wants to powdercoat them black. I think they look too good to do that so I'm trying to talk her into letting me have them and buying something like these to put on the 4Runner:

Thanks! I think the spokes look a little big, but if the tires had larger sidewalls I think it would look better. My next set of tires will either be 255/85/16 or 255/80/17. Which set of wheels I continue to run will probably just depend on which tire size is cheaper. I’m hanging on to my 16”s

Note: 28(ish?) degrees is too cold to sleep in a hammock. Long story short, after freezing until 3AM, I moved my sleeping bags to the truck. Still had a great time this past weekend in the Ouachita National Forest with @TenBeers @TerraNerva @PinnaclePete @Dave_M. Thanks everyone for coming out despite the weather and getting pictures!
