It's been a long time since I ran the 10" rack personally. You get better rearward visibility with the 14" or 18".

We have a 14" on our Raptor at the moment, but it's being swapped out in a day or two for an 18" with some jazzy new parts that we just made.

Our TRD Pro Tacoma is getting a 14" in a few days as well, along with a CVT tent.

So the 10" rack + the tonneau cover brackets total high is 12.5" correct? I have a prinsu and looking to get a Tepui tent, trying to figure out what will fit best pro and cons

Having the rack up tall gives you just enough head room to crawl / kneel around in the bed and get things without banging your head. Also you can still use your rearview mirror which is huge for me and my driving habits. Having it down low will give you wayyyy less drag going down the interstate and will be a noticeable MPG increase over the high racks

A 10" x 58" long rack on a short bed is a definite head cracker. I prefer the 46" on a short bed for just that reason.

I'm looking at the bestop one - does anyone know which height is better for the bestop version? At either height, will an overcab roof system (e.g. prinsu or frontrunner) sit flush with the rack? Also, are the crossbars removable temporarily? e.g. in case I decide I want to pick up a fridge.

This rack is designed for Softoppers, we cannot guarantee that it will fit a BesTop:

    https://www.max-modular.com/shop-max-modular/topper-max-truck-bed-rack

For Softoppers, the 21.5" height is appropriate for Tacoma's.

There's more than a few outfitters that only design for softoppers, is it harder to come up with one that fits a bestop? just curious. Also, how far over the cab will the 21.5" version sit?

And is the crossbar removable for over-height loads?

Just read this thread, and like many people, I'm debating between the 10" and 14" with tonneau brackets (so add 2.5") and use with a RTT (make still TBD, but just envision the usual black covered RTT). I have a couple of questions (I'm targeting the alumnium taco max):

    1. Will the drawer system work with either of these? With the tonneau brackets? Thinking about add ons later down the road and don't want to limit myself at the get-go.
    2. like many, I'm concerned with drastically reducing MPGs as this is my daily driver. I figure with a prinsu, the 10+2.5" height and an RTT are not a huge impact on mpgs, but does anyone specifically have the 14", tonneau cover brackets and a RTT and can share the impact to MPGs? 1-2mpg lost doesn't worry me... 5-7 mpg loss may be a deal breaker for the taller rack (which is preferable).

idk about the drawer system, but idk why it wouldn't work. the tonneau brackets seem to support quite a bit of weight, but someone smarter than me can give you a better answer.

as far as mpg, i have a higher rack that sits just below the roof line, got a picture in this thread somewhere. It looks like my mpg has hovered around 17 mpg. It was around 19 when it was new, then I added the rack in like feb/mar and the tent in may. I do need to update my info, but doesn't look like it's dropped too much

Yes, our 58" long rack will fit a short bed Tacoma.

The rear legs connect to existing bolts near the tailgate.

I purchased a rack for my Tacoma from you back in early 2017. It's worked out great for me over the years!

Just randomly checked out your website tonight because I'm looking for lockable bed storage, and I noticed your new Max Modular Cargo Max locking chest. Looks exactly like what I was hoping for/dreaming of! Please tell me this will fit my old Voodoo rack (18" x 58") without too much trouble. :D

I contacted KBVOODOO with the same question I had purchased my rack in 2017 as well. The rack has evolved a bit since we got ours. I believe the legs on the new racks are now wider. Also from the images on the website it looks like the location of the bolts and nuts are different. That being said I am still considering purchasing the cargo max and see if I can retrofit it some how. If the legs are wider on the new racks, our racks should have more room and all we need to do is fill the gap. I’m sure it’s easier said then done. But I have high school metal fab skills and own basic metal work tools so I might just give it a shot.

The Cargo Max will not fit the older racks for a variety of reasons.

They are specifically designed to work with our new racks: https://www.max-modular.com/shop-max-modular
