The baffles build inside the fuel tank may not always be enough with just a few gallons of gas to keep the fuel pump from running dry at times when making turns or hitting on the brakes, thereby possibly damaging or shortening the life of the fuel pump.
Moreover, Toyota, like most modern day vehicles with fuel injection stopped using the traditional regularly replaceable inline fuel filter(s) years ago.
The only thing they retained is the fuel strainer sack that is inside the gas tank fuel pickup line that was on grandpas Oldsmobile.
When this sack gets clogged, you’re looking at making both the tow truck company happy, and the repair shop happy as they will relieve you of some of that excess serious $$ cash you’ve holding onto.
I haven’t had any fuel repair or system service such as injector cleaning or engine performance issues in eons with hundreds of thousand miles in my vehicles simply by always using the same top tier fuel name brand, filling up when the needle goes to 1/4 tank gas, and regularly replacing my air filter.
But that’s just me, everyone has and is entitled their own ideas, experience and luck.
    Cheers!

Which gas company? It is difficult to find Ethanol Free gas stations these days.

Have you ever heard of preventative maintenance? Can't speak specifically of Toyota but every system has some type of filter and a service change interval. Just saying!

You obviously have no idea of what your talking about because if you did, you'd know there's no fuel filter that needs to be replace at regular intervals on new '16 toyota tacoma..
Have a great day with your new found knowledge!
    Cheers!

all i know is its PITA to change the in tank filter on any newer trucks.. you usually have to pull the bed or moved it back enough to access the intake pump. I miss the old days where the only filter on a vehicle was on the frame rail. I will not be changing my tank filter for PM Work. Unless the thing stops pumping.

Apparently 40 years just isn't enough for some folks to learn new tricks the automakers come up with.
Read your maintenance manual if you even have one and tell me what page number it says to replace the fuel filter.

I ran my s10s fuel low all the time from full to E since I had 40k on it and I sold it at 190k. Still running with the factory pump and filter. No issue.

    Same as everybody else...
I checked that website for Ethanol Free gas, I live in Southern Maryland. No gas stations close to me but a couple of marinas, may give it a shot but I'm sure the cost per gallon will be steep.

I don't like to run the truck dry but on highway trips I get about 385 miles to the tank before I start looking for petrol. I'm an older guy and drive like one so I run the truck pretty gently.

Actually it would probably be in the diagnostic repair manual. Probably on the diagnostic tree one would follow fow low power or low fuel pressure readings.
If anyone knows where to get a set of manuals please give a link, Toyota is too protective of yheir stuff for sure.
