Ok I need some help. I have an 06 Tacoma double cab prerunner TRD sport. I'm getting ready to lift it within the next month or so. I'm lifting the front with Bilstein 5100s set on 2.5", and the back with 1.5" AAL. I need to know the max tire size I can fit without rubbing and having to trim. I've seen multiple posts about people being able to fit 285/70/17 with no rubbing or trimming, but at the same time, I've seen posts saying that they've had to trim a lot. I'm kinda new to the whole "lifting the truck" deal, so I apologize in advance because I'm sure there's already a few posts about this but I can't find any for what I'm trying to do that answer the questions I have! I've also heard that if I ran 285/70/17, I would need wheels with a 4.5" backspacing to prevent having to trim due to rubbing  I need some guidance! Pictures are welcome!

At 3" of lift I had to trim. Don't see how you could get 285s under a 2.5" lift without trimming.

265/70/17 is the only size you can fit that you will know you wont have to cut. Might have to remove mudflaps but thats about it. If you want to stay away from cutting then I'd stick with 265/70/17 or 255/75/17

    ALL KINDS OF SHIT

    Here is your answer.^^^

I'm almost 3.5 in the front and can still make 285's hit if I flex it hard enough. If your just planning on going to the mall then you might be able to cut, and hammer some shit and get them to fit but they will still hit.

Ok so 285s are out. I was wanting to get a wider tire than the 265s though. Is there any way I can do that? Do yall think I could fit maybe 270s or 275s? I was looking on the tire size calculator and it doesn't seem like much of a difference.

I have 265/75/ 16 BFG KO's and I had to trim a little on the flare, and mud guards (Kept mud guards on because BFG/AT's are stone throwers)

No lift though yet, personally I don't see how just lifting 2.5 or 3" would make it fit any better though.

So I decided to go with 285s. I know I'll have to trim but after looking up what I'd have to do, I don't think it'll be a problem. I think 265s look too skinny for a 2.5" lift. Would getting wheel spacers help prevent some rubbing?

Just wait till you get them, see where your rub, fix accordingly. You may have to cut up your cab mount tho

If you want wide and don't mind running a 16" wheel, get 285/70/16.. no rub lock to lock with 2.5" of front lift and 4.5" bs wheels

I know I'm getting nitto trail graps, I just can't find a wheel with a 4.5" bs. How do you tell how much bs a wheel has?

Yeah I was reading other posts and they said they had to cut the cab mount. I think that's where I might run into some trouble, as I don't know how to go about doing it. But thanks man, from what I read, everybody rubs differently. Guess I'll just have to see how mine is

I wonder what rim offset would be best to avoid rubbing with 33.something” tires and the 2.5” lift

good to know these 33s on 16” rims don’t rub at all!! Did you have to do any other modifications? What width & rim offset did you get? Thanks

I have a 2.5” lift and went with 32” tires with a wheel that has a -12 offset (if I remember correctly) only had to remove the mud flaps up front and I’ve had no issues. Perfect for daily driving and works great for most basic to medium off roading thus far…
