I've been seriously considering upgrading my tires but would love to have an upgraded spare as well to match. I'm considering Nitto T Grapplers @ 265 75 16's for my 2012 access cab. Looking underneath at the spare it looks like I have 1" to spare in sidewall height.

    Sidewall Height inches (mm) 7.23 (183.75) 7.82 (198.75)
^^taken from the tire size calculator.

From what the size calculator tells me it's really only a half inch increase. I do some long distance driving and would hate to not have a matching tire as a spare. I read about putting the undersized spare up front etc...but I would not mind paying for the 5th tire to have a completely safe setup.

I would greatly appreciate any knowledge and insight on this. Thanks in advance.

The 265/75/16 will fit as a spare. There is even a little modding you can do to fit a 285/75/16

I removed the two tabs, or ears, and was able to fit a 255/85/16 (Cooper Discoverer S/T) which is about 34" diameter. It was a little snug, and you need to tilt the tire to get above the differential. The exhaust looks close, but after a 6 hour trip, the spare was not warm at all.
