LMAO, I still crack up looking at how that photo turns out. Let me tell you the whole story. My son's Ranger broke down. I wanted to get it back to Blythe to repair it. I knew I was at the limit but he Rangers front hubs were about to go...

Our trucks (DCSB V6 4x4) are rated to tow 6400 pounds, but only have a payload capacity of 1175 pounds. Toyota says keep the tongue weight at or under 640 pounds, which leaves you 535 pounds for you and everything else in the truck...

Speaking of payload, the Tacoma’s GCVW is only 11,360 pounds. If you are pushing max payload (which you probably will be unless you’re by yourself in an empty truck when towing) you only have a 5785 pounds of towing capacity as quoted from the factory.

I plan on keeping max trailer weight at or under 5000 pounds.

I’m planning on downsizing from my F150. I will only tow my horse trailer so it’s maybe 3500lbs Max.
I’ve been looking at the Access Cab 4x4 V6. Basically the same configuration for the Nissan Frontier.

Thanks to all for the answers. I’ve had a problem finding the info on Toyota’s site.

Have you seen the new info on the Frontier? The old body style will rock the new drivetrain for one year before the new model comes out. New motor, new tranny, etc. You def. should read up on it and see if you want to avoid that.

What really surprises me is how good this mid sized truck holds up downhill. I was towing that loaded auto trailer up and down some fairly serious grades. Using the lower gears to hold the speed down, I was on the brakes less than the big rigs and RV's. I had no trouble, at all, staying up with right lane traffic.

I have no interest in the new drivetrain. I’ll be buying a new 4.0L and 5 speed if I decide on the Nissan.

AT, it holds the gears perfectly downhill. I wasn't sure how it was gonna do.
