Curious if this has been addressed or explained somewhere… we got major flooding here and I just want to be safe rather than sorry. What’s the tallest water level that’s safe to cross? Stock.

    East bay, huh?

The electronics and such are pretty well sealed, so I would go to the bottom of the doors to avoid any water intrusion into the cab.

And drive slowly, don't go YOLO'ing into the "puddle" thinking it's cool, only to flood your engine and rip off your inner fender liners, front bumper plastic.

Although on second thought, I'd love to see an electric lime go viral on the interwebs… :D

    Good luck out there.

I personally wouldn't go over a foot deep, and it would be slow going.

Anything higher than the frame presents a risk, you have breather tubes, electrical connections, the intake within the wheel well. They key to water crossings is maintaining a solid bow plane that moves the water around and away from the vehicle.

Deepest water I crossed I actually dropped into a river/creek and water rolled over the hood and onto the windshield, definitely made me pucker but kept the throttle on and it pushed the water away and have zero intrusions. 10/10 would not recommend.

Dont know but I ordered the Diff Breather kit off a member here a few years ago and had it installed as a piece of mind.

    Lugs is the golden rule.

if you push the water you can go higher but you cannot stop. If you stop pushing immediately turn off the engine.

Top of wheel is max, headlights is danger zone.

Always have seat belt off and don’t shift gears if it’s a manual.

Well a friend in the navy bought a jeep. Drove it across a flooded road pretty fast. Large hole appeared in the side of the block.

On a completely unrelated note, boats are pretty handy. You can tow one with the Tacoma.

Could you image if Toyota Corporate published a number?
The next day there would be a lineup of sunk trucks in the parking lot and owners with tape measures..

Just be mindful where your intake is. And you should be fine….we’ll hopefully you have a rear diff breather

    I
Wouldn’t go any deeper than bottom
Of my doors. Also the alternator is something to consider, it sits pretty low.

Not the best pics but that’s pretty much as deep as I’ll go. Stock breathers, never had issues.

Bottom of the seats, is the start of the danger zone. That’s about a quarter way up the doors, all kinds of electrical components start to get wet and will stall the engine, further compounding problems in said water. I know this for fact on a 2nd gen.
