Agreed! Surprisingly once my friend pulled me out I had no issues. But a month later when colder weather started to hit I was having intermittent starting issues that I traced back to the starter itself. I believe there was a small amount of water inside causing issues. Replaced that and I was good to go.

Just curious but I drove my Krispy Kreme delivery truck through a flooded intersection thinking it would be no big deal in my box truck. I knew the doughnuts wouldnt get wet and the cab was above the water level but I forgot the tail pipe wasnt. I made it through but had to keep reeving the engine to keep the water out of the tail pipe.
When you guys go splashing in the mud and water like that how do you keep the water out of the tail pipes?

I didn’t read all the replies, so maybe this has been mentioned already.
The problem is, not the depth it can handle, rather not being able to gauge the depth until it’s already too late. Turning around or backing out is the same unknown.

If it’s a mud hole, try it. If it’s a flooded roadway, turn around.

Believe it or not I lost my very first car to a puddle that was exactly like that. I was cutting across the parking lot and didn't think twice about avoiding such an insignificant bit of water. What I didn't realize was that it was concealing a monster of a pothole. My car hit it at some magic angle that damn near sheared the transmission right at the camshaft, not to mention trashed the entire front drive system and suspension. Knocked the wind out of my lungs and got a gnarly bruise going from 30 to zero in under six inches.

Totaled it, and nobody believed teenage lobster when he tried to explain it. Senior year was spent riding the yellow bus. :pout:

Crossing flowing water, no deeper than the frame or you will be pushed off the crossing.

Standing water, keep it below the doors to keep water from getting inside. Drive slowly but with enough momentum that there is a wave out front of the hood and the bumper is in a bit of a trough. Dry out and cycle your winch afterwards.

My 2nd gen often went as deep as the bottom of the doors without issue. My diesel Hilux has had water over the hood.

For flooded river fordings in Belize we would disconnect the fan belt on the v8 Chev before crossing, but not worry with the diesel Hiluxs and Unimog.

Scarier was driving across this with 3" of water over it.

Jeep publishes 33" to meet "trail rated" status (the last I knew). I took my wife's Grand Cherokee through at least 24" or more, I could feel the water slapping the sides of the doors, exhaust submerged, the truck actually felt like it wanted to float. The next day at work I drained the diffs and t-case and no water intrusion at all.

Four pages and no one has posted/linked to anything about breather locations (front/rear diffs, transmission, transfer case) and anything about sealing up the actuators for the xfer case and front diff disconnect?
