Serious difference between rain and 31" of water. Seriously. Hard to float away in rain. Easy to float away in water up to bottom of body.

Where exactly is the air intake into the air intake ? Front fender ? Behind the wheel liner ?

The air box pipes directly into the top of the passenger wheel well. It has a small “shield” on the bottom inside to help deflect dirt from entering. The fender liner hides it but it has a slotted section in the front to help direct air.

Can we get a Toyota engineer to come in and settle this once and for all?

I've gone this deep with a AWD CRV, without issue. Haven't had the opportunity to try it in my Taco yet.

Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
If the Krispy’s get soggy do you offer a discount?

In southeast Louisiana yesterday (New Orleans/Metairie) we had 7 inches of rain in roughly 3 hours. Having gotten my ‘23 TRD Sport only months ago I was at least a little excited to drive through depths I’d have been scared to try in my ’16 CR-V. Had to drive home at 2pm, right about when the rain slacked off, so it was probably the worst possible time to do so. It was all standing water on paved streets whose depths I know well having grown up here. It was still a little scary.

We drive through water a lot down here, so I’m fairly well-versed in the process - kept to the crowns of each road as well as I could, paused for a few moments to give time for cars in front of me to make room so I could maintain a constant speed/wake through the especially deep bits, took careful note of other cars driving though places I was planning on also driving through. Urban flooding is nerve-wracking to drive through in general.

At the worst I ended up going through places that were definitely over a foot deep but less than two, probably roughly knee-depth. No water in the cab. I’m not sure whether it ever got above the door sill, but I wasn’t going to open the door to find out. My first car was flooded in Hurricane Katrina – it only ran for a few more weeks after that, but the smell is something I won’t forget. Definitely wanted to avoid wet carpets at all costs.

Still passed a lot of stalled out/semi-floating sedans in places, but I had no trouble. The sound of the water lapping the sides was the worst part. That and the tiny moments of “am I floating or is that the suspension?” Of course the guys in truly massive/lifted behemoths blew through with no issues, but I still got pretty nervous. The only part of the truck I knew was definitely getting submerged that I’d prefer not to was the tailpipe; but slow, steady forward momentum and positive pressure did the trick.

I installed the intake, and that’s pretty darn high up so it was not a concern. The concern was for things whose height I don’t know. Like the alternator (how high is that mounted?).

Having read this thread I was probably still a bit more worried than I needed to be, but I’ll never not be worried. Seen too much flood damage in my time. Still, I wish I had a picture of my truck plowing through that water.
