Overland trip southbound through sections 3 and 2 of the WABDR

    What: Memorial Day trip
    When: 12:00PM, Friday, May 25
Where: Safeway (116 River Bend Dr, Leavenworth, WA 98826)

From the Safeway, we'll head south on the re-route of section 3 to (47.303361, -120.479889). Friday will be short driving day but that means we don't have to wake up at the ass-crack of dawn to meet up.
Saturday, we'll get moving after breakfast and continue south towards Ellensburg, completing section 3. Once in Ellensburg we can re-fuel, get more supplies, meet additional people, whatever, before heading further south on section 2. We'll camp along section 2 where ever our hearts desire.
Sunday, peeps can either head back towards Ellensburg to go home or continue on section 2 (towards Packwood) for more adventuring and possibly another night of camping.

    Attending:
    1. texmeg89
    2. @JimSnell (meeting at camp Friday night)
    3. @Korndog1284 / @CatGrl007
    4. @Rocco-Taco
    5. @hx989 (meeting at camp Friday night)

Okay so Memorial day, then. Joel and I have been talking about it, too so this is good timing. I expect to be a lot more mobile by then, with my leg and

I'd prefer something along the BDR of possible, less populate with normal urban campers in their Subaru's. I have a few spots in mind, particularly on the Bethel (?) Ridge section. They can fit many rigs, easily over 10 with room. That's just a thought.

All for this... However, looking at the elevation near Bethel Ridge area (section 2 of the WABDR), there will still be a lot of snow.
So probably not too stock/newb friendly.... :-/

Maybe if we did section 4 (Cashmere to Chelan) or 5 (Chelan to Conconully)? Probably won't run into as much or as deep of snow as on section 2.

I'd be interested in meeting you guys if you hit a section of the BDR. Unfortunately, I could probably do any weekend besides Memorial Day.

Section 3,4,5 are great with lots of areas to camp if I remember correctly. I probably wont be able to make it but you really cant go wrong anywhere on that trail. Tail end of section 3 going north of beehive reservoir might be pretty tame because it is a bypass due to the trail getting destroyed by washout about 3-4 years ago and not enough money to repair.

If you don't want to be around many people I wouldn't hit the WABDR, especially on memorial day weekend

If wabdr I'd say 3 or 5. 5 might be a bit snowy.

Edit: @TexMeg89 did homework, and 4 looks good too.

    Yes.
As far as where... I'm a stock newb still trying to get familiar with roads out here. So all I can suggest are easily researched roads like the Green Dot Trails or sections of the WABDR.
But I'm down for an "easy" (stock friendly) section of the WABDR if someone is familiar enough with it, preferably one with no snow. I'm so over winter.

So Wendy, Jeff and I completed most of section 2 WABDR yesterday. Starting at Ellensburg and working south on the trail we ended near rim rock lake. Most of the trail was nice and easily and accessible via stock truck. Until the end.... the last 20 miles of the trail leading to 12 was Awesome/Tough/Stressful especially after a full day of trail and the sunset quickly approaching. There were multiple points where tree fall blocked the trail and the use of difficult bypasses was required. In some cases we needed to create our own bypasses! Outside of that there were a ton of beautiful locations to camp many of which can accommodate multiple rigs.

I am interested to understand what people are looking for this weekend. Are you looking for a weekend of overlanding and camping a different locations? or finding one place and kicking around the same camping spot for multiple days? In addition to this how many people are going or have confirmed intent to attend?

    Thanks for the information.
I'd like to do more of an overlanding trip. Was thinking a two night adventure; head out Friday morning and come back Sunday.
